Annoying Nav input on 2010 tech

It's really frustrating that you must choose the right form of the street name e.g. "W ELM ST" vs "ELM ST" before you can proceed. And if you don't know the exact form to choose you have to go trial and error through possibly a dozen or more choices. What's worse, if you guess wrong, you must go back and input the street again, letter by letter. Easily the most frustrating nav input system I've used. Ideally it should let you enter the city first or just proceed with a multiple match until you can choose the city if you don't know the precise prefix or suffix.

The ridiculous thing about having to specify the prefix is that I didn't even know my street had a "W" prefix - it's not on any document I've ever seen, including the property deed.

Fortunately, I tried the voice command and it works a bit better - you input the city first which narrows down the street choices immensely. You may still need to do trial and error but then you probably have to pick between two or three, not a dozen or more.

Hopefully this will improve with some future update, but I'm not holding my breath. I was also surprised that my 2010 tech has a map database dated April 08.

This is because the 2010 Tech package uses the same system as the 2009 (Lexicon with DIS). The 2009's shipped with a 4/08 database too. We're still waiting for a map update--one that's been promised "in a couple of months" every couple of months.

As far as I've heard, it's unlikely the update will do anything else than update the maps.

On my couple of attempts, it refuses to understand me saying "Ontario". Thinks I want Iowa or Arizona.

This is my biggest gripe with my Genesis. All too often there are multiple variants of a street name - prefixes, suffixes, etc. Once you select one you find out it's clearly not in the right city... pressing the BACK button on the DIS control panel backs up two steps, not one, so you have to totally re-enter the stupid street again. Either fix BACK so it returns to the previous lists of streets so I can just try the next one or add the city (& house numbers perhaps?) to the street name list. Either would probably be a simple software change... updating the manuals to match would require more effort!

Voice command has been more trouble than help on my car as well. Most commands seem to end up as "call mom" for some reason. The only reliable command has been "cancel." I have a Southern California accent - nothing funky at all.

That's actually one thing I miss about the Genesis - the nav. At least you have in-motion controls. My Lexus LS460 requires you to stop to do just about anything on the screen - including browse playlists and MP3 folders!

I have a Midwest accent and also have difficulty with voice commands. I have a friend who answers the phone by saying "is your car calling me or are you?" The voice commands have gone so far as to repeat the command and then not do the command.
