  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

OK, so add one more Genesis to the smashed list. I left work around lunch time today for a dentist appointment and got smashed in the side along the way. No injuries. well, except the pain of seeing my car like this. Anyone want to guess how much damage this is?

Wow.. Sorry to see this.. I'm glad you're okay.. :o

eeekkk...Glad no injuries.

I'll say with OEM Korean Parts from Korea $7500.

I had to pay a 6 month premium on my insurance due to all the parts having to be shipped from Korea. The time it will take them to get here and the fact that I had rental coverage.

If the rear roof pillar is shot it may be even more.

My poor man's guess by my own visual inspection is that the roof pillar is seriously damaged. Looked like it folded in and pulled the roof down slightly. Notice even the ripples in the sheet metal on above the rear door.

Also, the front door would not even open with me pushing on the inside and a pretty big guy pulling on the outside. Even the front door looked a little warped in person.

That's a lot of pieces. Based on some of the high prices for repairs posted on this site I was thinking maybe $15K or more for the entire repair. I think "travmatic" posted something like 12.5K for his rear-ender and I think my damage looks worse, although he had components like exhaust and such.

What do you mean by having to pay "a 6 month premium"? Do you mean you paid a premium over the normal rate?

Ouch - glad nobody was injured (though I suspect someone would have been if they t-boned me like that.) Do people just lose their minds when they see the Genesis?

Looks like mostly sheet metal damage, if it was German it would be only skin deep, so I guess we'll know how well built these cars are after you get a full damage report!

Now, it looks like a new door shell, new rear fender and door arch, so $6k. If the frame is compromised, closer to $10k.

Glad to hear you are ok! Looks like a nice job to say the least. I f I was guessing it looks about 12 G's.

I just picked up a Gennie (3.8 prem +) myself and upon returning to the parking garage I notice my left rear bumper scraped! Just a bummer as I only had the car for 1 whole day!

I feel your pain.

Best

OK, so you win. Got the vehicle back today and total damage was $6,300. Shop really did a great job, had several friends and myself go over it with a fine tooth comb and found only minor niggles that should be easy to correct. There was was only very, very minor frame damage, so parts were basically just a you listed, new door shell, rear inner and outer quarter panel, and that's about it.

Certainly glad to have my Gennie back!!!

That is absolutely amazing. I had minor damage on my Honda Accord passenger door by a wheel that flew and hit my car... It was $3500 - and they only had to buy a new door and trim piece. (This is the only body work I have ever had done.)

Glad you you got your car back. I have Genesis withdrawals after not driving it for a couple days.

Bob

wow you are lucky, initially my estimate was about 12k to fix, now it jumped to 15k, thank god i aint paying for it and the woman that hit me...he insurance lapsed...fml, i guess someone is getting taken to court and the worst part is i still havent gotten my car back yet, i have been driving this rental longer than my actual car

So far the only serious issue with the repair that I've noticed is that the rear seat appears to have been damaged by the repair shop. Looks like while they had the rear seat out it might have been leaning up against something and "deformed" the rear passenger seat right around the arm rest. I've attached a picture. I'm interested to hear any opinions on how difficult this might be to fix. Basically it appears that the frame supporting the leather upholstery is bent slightly. Can that be accessed without removing the seat? If not, I'm not sure it's worth fixing even though it will be hard to look at.

Holy crap I would be angry!!!!:mad:

I would take your car back asap and let them know the damage the shop did. It's a brand new car, so you know it wasn't there prior..............

I don't think it's something that would bother me much, personally. But if it's something that you think will bug you, then definitely take it back and have them repair it. Shouldn't take them long at all.

Point is, they were paid to repair your car to the same condition it was in before the accident, so if the seat damage wasn't there and it's something that will bug you, it's their duty to repair it. It is what they are being paid for, after all.

Shop says they will take care of this, and a few other minor issues I found since picking it up on Friday. Since they have to get a little paint to fix a minor scratch I'm going to let them paint my mud guards as well. I've had them for a while and was originally going to put them on unpainted until someone else posted a picture of their's with the color matched paint.

Where did you get the Mud Guards?

The would look great on my 3.8.

Do they create wind noise or have any negatives at all?

Thanks

My wife picked them up for me as a gift. They are official Hyundai accesories and I'm assuming she got them off eBay. A search on there always turns up a pair. I think their $70-80 for a full front and back set. Here's the thread with pictures of a color matched pair.
