I was looking to go from Montgomery, Texas to Cypress, Texas yesterday (for most of you who aren't familiar with the Houston area, both of these are Houston suburbs, Montgomery being extreme Northwest and Cypress being extreme southwest). Before I committed to a route, I hit the "select alternate route" entry. These aren't exact numbers as I'm going from memory, but they were close enough
1. 1 Hour 29 minutes, 56 miles (this was the route chosen by default by the Nav, and of course it involved an interstate)
2. 1 Hour 18 minutes, ~48 miles (no interstate, taking back-country roads)
3. 1 Hour 6 minutes, ~43 miles
(one more I can't remember)
Now the kicker is, when I asked the Nav to choose the route by shortest distance or shortest time (I tried both), neither of them were working! It insisted on taking me on the longest distance, longest time route, presumably just so I could have the 'pleasure' of taking I-45. I manually selected route #3 and just shook my head..
