  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Ive seen a few threads regarding adding an additional sub in the trunk of the genesis but they seem to be lacking info. Ive done 2 installs on my previous cars so I have some basic knowledge on the subject.

'13 R-spec (17 speaker)...I have one 10" dvc 2 ohm Alpine type-r in a 1.0ft^3 sealed box. Box fits perfectly against the rear seat and clears the trunk liner. I have an older rockford p5002 amp (500x1@4ohms bridged) that I was using for this sub. Planning on upgrading to a alpine pdx-m6. I certainly dont need massive bass so one 10 or 12 always works for me. Sq is more important to me

Easiest way to do the install seems to be adding a LOC to the existing sub wires. Ive previously used the Scosche LOC80 for my installs and they do the job just fine. Ive been looking at the audiocontrol lc2i since a member here recommended it for this type of install with the lexicon system. Any opinions on LOC's?

Its nice that the battery is already in the trunk so I shouldnt have a problem going with 8 gauge wires (will not be pushing more then 500-600 watts with 3-4 feet of battery cable). I know smaller gauge is always better but I have a brand new 8 gauge rockford wiring kit laying around.

As far as the remote wire is concerned, Ive seen a few people run the line to the passenger side fuse panel and add a fuse. Has anyone run the remote wire to a hot wire in the trunk? There has to be one in there somewhere.

I quickly peaked at the trunk top liner and I only saw rivets holding it in place. They dont look like your typical clips and pins that Ive seen used. How do you remove the liner?

Are the sub wires accessible through the bottom of the sub? Meaning, will removing the trunk liner be enough to gain access to those wires? Or does the rear deck have to be removed as well?

I would like to remove the rear sub completely in order to gain a nice port for the bass to pass through into the cabin. If I go this route, Im assuming the rear deck will need to be removed anyway.

With a setup of 500-600watts, does anyone expeirince trunk or deck rattling?

Thanks all

Are the sub +/- speaker wires labeled?
Opinions on which LOC?
Opinions on wiring gauge choice for this setup?
Where to tap remote wire in the trunk?
How to remove top trunk liner?
Can you access the sub wires through the trunk or rear deck?
Opinions on removing the stock sub for the purpose of passing more bass into the cabin?

Sorry bro; I had installers do both of mine, so can only answer general questions and not installation questions. I have a 500w Alpine Install and if I turn up the bass loud enough or am playing modern hip-hop, the back end of the car does vibrate. It all depends on how much you like to kick it. I usually dial my stuff back quite a bit though (and don't listen to too much hip-hop :-) ).

Sub'ed for info.

I don't see why any LOC won't work? The sub wires going to the sub are amplified just like any other traditional sound system. Shouldn't be an issue.

I don't see using 8AWG as an issue. The length of wire is so short that it will be fine.

For the remote wire, have you thought about using an amp with an auto sensing turn on? I can't think of a 12V switched wire that would be in the trunk area. Maybe the fuel pump?

There is another thread or two on this forum where members have tried amps with the auto sensing feature and they were unable to get it to work using the wires from the oem sub.

I think the turn signal wires would be hot wires when the ignition is turned on. Ill get my multimeter back there and poke around

Im just going to try and tackle this in the near future. I have all the supplies.
