  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My wife backed into the garage door and the antenna hit the bottom of the door. The antenna is loose now and I want to see what is involved in fixing her screw up. Does anyone know how it is attached? 2012 Genesis sedan.

This is for a coupe but MAYBE you could somewhat mimic it?

Thanks, I will try it.

Yea I replaced my shark fin since my XM satellite radio stopped working and when I removed it there was water corrosion on the circuit board from I guess me shooting water directly at it from the self car wash. But you just pulled down the headliner at the top of the rear window just enough to get your hand in there and since it’s loose you could use your fingers to un screw or a screw driver to tighten. Also if you have the tech package there will be two wires attached one for Nav and one for XM

thanks, I will check that out

As a follow up, I just went out and looked at the antenna closely and realized its actually very easy to remove.
If you pull down about 12" to either side of the headliner, right up against the back window, there is a single round plastic snap on each side that pops right out.
That gives you enough room to look underneath the headliner where you will see two cables plugged into the antenna, a smaller one for the XM and a larger one for the GPS. Those cables are push-in, so all you have to do is very carefully pull them straight out. After that, there is a single nut, about 16mm that holds the antenna in place. Mine was so loose, I could turn it with my fingers.(that’s from a thread I read to do mine)

thanks, task for tomorrow

Anyone know where to buy JUST the plastic shark fin cover? I knocked mine off with the self serve car wash brush and the dealer told me I had to replace everything, including the antenna, just to get a new plastic fin! WTH?! $200 w/o installation. Right now it's glued on....

It makes sense that it could be printed, I'll check into that. I may also try a salvage yard.
Thanks for the help!

I wonder if the fins from other Hyundai or even other brands of car would fit. Many look alike.

My guess is that they're standardized...

NICE!

Found a full dummy assemble on amazon $29.00 factory oem

Well it looked the same however after pulling down the headliner and removing the original antenna. The fin cover had a different screw pattern and would not interchange. Also the electronics would not interchange.

So I just ground off the 5 screw bosses on the new cover and used silicone to attach and water proof.
Looks perfect.

Would you mind describing how you pull down the headliner back there? I have an antenna on order, and have no idea how to do it.

Thanks, surprised I missed that! (y)

My cover got knocked off in the car wash and could not be located. I don't mind taking the time to grind off the screw part and silicone it on to the car. Based on my VIN, this is the actual part for my car. Do you think the fin cover you found on Amazon would fit on a 2017 G80?
