  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have a 2011 Genesis Coupe 2.0T Premium. I live in the New Orleans area, and Louisiana in general is not know for its great roads. Many times I have experienced while braking firmly and hitting a bump, the anti-lock brakes engage. This greatly concerns me as I feel as if I am not stopping and I would stop much quicker if the anti-lock brakes did not engage. I have had it check out at the dealership, and specifically brought it in for the factory rep to check. The dealership tested another car they had on the lot, and it performed the same. So, this is not a problem with my particular car, but across the board, and in my opinion, should be fixed under a recall. I asked if there were any adjustments on the controls that would allow a little more slip before the ABS kicks in and I was told that there are no adjustments that can be made. I asked for particulars of how the ABS system monitored the tires, and, as I suspected, it's basically an encoder, but I couldn't find out how many pulses per revolution or how many pulses difference between the two wheels before the ABS kicked in. I also have issue with the traction control. There's a bump in the road that I would hit on a regular basis, and when traction control kicks in, cruise control is turned off. This is a bump I hit regularly with cruise control on, and it consistently turns the cruise control off when I hit it. I also notice that the traction control kicks in under throttling turns and other conditions where you would expect a sports car to perform, rather than shut down. Is there any setting on this? Has anyone experienced the issue with the ABS? Any ideas? How can I prove that the vehicle stops better over bumps without ABS? There have been a couple incidents where I was afraid I was going to hit the vehicle in front of me. I have owned other cars with ABS and I have never had it kick in under normal driving.

Anti-lock breaks keep the wheel from locking up. If you go over a bump while applying the break and the wheel/tire looses contact, the anti-lock will kick in. It sounds like yours is working perfectly from what you describe. Go drive the damn car and enjoy it.

I don't know if it would stop faster as is or with the tires locked up.

I do know that so far its stopping just fine. Very quick, very smooth, almost effortless stops up to this point.

Oh, mine is a coupe with the brembo brakes so that may give me an advantage over a larger sedan (not sure what they weigh or what the brake system is like on those).

I do know (after checking the cost of a replacement set of tires) I sure don't want any flat spots on them from the brakes locking up and sliding the tires.

This is a "feature" of many standard ABS systems today. Only the most expensive vehicles have additional ABS modes to deal with transient conditions, such as bumps. They also handle the dreaded "ice mode" much better. OE ABS systems are not adjustable, nor will any manufacture ever allow it due to potential liability if it all goes wrong. That's not to say that some pioneering entrepreneur couldn't offer a flash that slightly "adjusted" the operating parameters to be a little less Nazi-like...

Kinda related. Also found out if you turn off the ESC while in smart cruise control the SCC will disengage.
