  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Anyone have any feel for anticipated performance of the 311HP 3.8 AWD '15 Genesis?

Well let's see. The power has decreased and the weight has increased in the '15 genesis

Two things not good for performance.

Total HP has decreased slightly in 2015, but power and torque has moved lower in the RPM curve, so 0-60 times may actually be improved. Maximum speed may have been reduced slightly, but that was already limited by a governor.

Since nobody has made an estimate, I will. 0-60 just under 6 seconds. AWD traction and more torque at lower RPM should reduce nanny control intervention through better grip (better launch) and could offset lower hp and more weight.

0-60 performance at sub 6 seconds would put in very good standing with the CTS, E350, Jaguar XF. and few others. I would gladly give up top end for improvement in torque curve and am looking forward to seeing some numbers on highway passing times. Won't be too long before we will be seeing some the magazine reviews or at least I hope not too long.

Exactly. It's about power under the curve and not peak power. Having the power and torque come in lower keeps the Genesis in its powerband more often. I expect the V6 to get to 60mph in under 6 seconds, but I also wouldn't be surprised if it is closer to mid 5s. Comparison:

Current V6 Genesis: 333hp @ 6400rpm, 291 lb/ft @ 5100rpm
2015 V6 Genesis: 311hp @ 6000rpm, 293 lb/ft @ 5000rpm
M-B E350: 302hp @ 6500rpm, 272lb/ft @ 3500rpm
Lexus GS350: 306hp @ 6400rpm, 277lb/ft @ 4800rpm
Cadillac CTS 3.6: 321hp @ 6800rpm, 275lb/ft @ 4800rpm
Infiniti M37: 330hp @ 7000rpm, 270lb/ft @ 5200rpm

The Q50 has good times and of course the A6 gets there in low 5's but that is a supercharged engine.

5.4 secs.

If the 3.8 could actually post that number, then indeed there would not be much reason to purchase the a 5.0 AWD should it be available.

Why is the Camry so quick with only 268HP? It also seems very smooth and clean revving. Notice how unruffled and smooth it pulls ;

Genesis 5.0 R-spec 429HP. Where is all that power?? Also it sounds like it's struggling

Nanny control. I have the 4.6 and it seems that the 385HP is not available at launch up to about 20 mph. You can actually fell the surge tip in above that speed and of course full power feels accessible at highway passing speeds. Maybe with the AWD less esc will be necessary as possibility for wheel spin will be minimized allowing more HP through the torque curve. Seems like that 5.0 gets there mighty quick.

Since the Camry is FWD, and has a lot of weight on the drive wheels, I guess they can let it rip without as much worry about wheel spin.

I always thought FWD cars had less traction than RWD. Due to the fact that when the car accelerates the weight transfers to the back and as a result the grip level of the powered front wheels is reduced cuasing wheel spin.

That could happen is the suspension was overly soft, but it does have to work like that.

Sometimes it's not all about 0-60.
I'd take a Genesis over a dime a dozen Camry every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

That sure doesn't sound or look like my R-spec.

But here is a general question.....why would a 3.8 buyer be overly concerned with performance? The 3.8 Genny is a luxo cruiser with a mileage efficient engine. If you want go get 'em power you would buy the 5.0 (even though that isn't a performance car either but it does do very well for a heavy sedan).

So says the Camry salesman................

One of the magazine reviews released today seemed to indicate 0-60 performance of the 3.8 in low 6's.
