  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

New user with a dead horse, sorry. I've read through the forum extensively about the oil consumption issues with the 2012 Rspec. I see many justifiable frustrations regarding the oil consumption, but not sure I saw much in regards to actual damage/further issues.

I've been looking at an early production 2012 Rspec and it's in fantastic shape. Runs, drives great. However, I see on the carfax that it was at the dealer and Drivability/performance checked. I assumed it was the consumption test, called the dealer that serviced it and they confirmed.

79k miles on the car and it ate 1.75 quarts over 3600 miles. Reading the replies on here and that seems to be on the low end of consumption. Otherwise, no other mechanical issues with the car.

It's at a new Audi dealer without much traffic yet, been on the lot for 70 days and they are motivated to sell. I'm on the fence because I don't see a lot of actual damage done to cars where the oil consumption is closely monitored.

Am I crazy?

Thanks in advance.

I don't know if actual damage will occur, but Hyundai replaced a lot of those engines because of the oil consumption problem (based on reading posts on this forum).

"Generally" speaking, Hyundai Genesis engines in good shape show no noticeable loss of oil between oil changes.

I decided to pass on the Genny. Too many variables on a car that's not warrantied.
