  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I know that their are no major changes, but are their minor ones?

I am in the market and would prefer a 2013, but their are none around me, only 2012 ones.

The 2012 I have my eye on is a CPO with 22k miles for $27K, which I think is a pretty good deal, right?

Is there any reason I should hold out and wait for a 2013 to pop up or should I just go for a 2012?

I am aware of the oil burning issues of the early 2012 models, but I am not too concerned because a CPO car will have that covered under remaining 10/100 warrenty.

One thing I'm aware of is bluetooth audio streaming is not available in the 2012 but is in the 2013.

As for that being a good deal, I'm not really sure. When I bought my 2013 new in 2014, the dealer also had new 2013 R-Specs available for $36k.

The UI for the navigation screen is different from 2012 to 2013 and the entire unit where the cd/dvd goes in is different. There are buttons for seek - FM/AM - Sat - Media in 2013. I was going through the same decision a couple years ago and settled on the 2013 after driving both.

The lack of Bluetooth audio streaming is pretty discouraging. I have a long commute and regularly listen to podcasts, which my 2013 base model civic handles just fine.

The biggest problem was the 2012 5.0's had a lot of oil consumption problems. That was resolved by 2013. I would keep looking until you found a 2013.

OP is aware of the oil consumption and isn't very much concerned...

Oil burning issue (something to do with the rings) was resolved during 2012.

Considering the hoops and time involved in getting an oil burner taken care of, he should be.

UPDATE:

Car was at the dealership for almost 1 month.

I just got the car back from the dealership after getting the shortblock replaced as well as new spark plugs, gaskets, etc.

Only drove about 35 minutes so far and she already feels better just driving around town keeping the rpm's below 3k.

I'm guessing the compression is much better now that everything is new.

Dealer said to drive slow for first 1500 miles, then I'm gonna change the oil to Pennzoil Ultra Synthetic.
After that I'll let her rip!

Yes, you have a point there. I am wondering at what mileage would the oil consumption show itself. Also, if I stick to manufactured dates after 2/2012, I should be ok, no?

The one I have my eye on right now has a mfg. date of May 2012.

I still would prefer a 2013 over the 2012, but the excitement is killing my patience. I have been driving a civic for the last 2.5 years and I am ready for the much needed upgrade. Selling my Evo iX to get the funds since I hardly have time to really enjoy that car anymore.

Never let your excitement get the better of you when buying a car. What difference does a month make in your purchase that you will hopefully drive for several years? And never let a dealer sense you excitement---------that will cost you money!!!

Keep researching and looking. The right car will show up at the right price.

Over the last 48 years of buying cars, I've researched, researched some more, negotiated with multiple dealers, and walked out of those negotiations at times. I have yet to buy a car that turned out to be a bad car to own--------even when I've kept them for years and 200,000 miles.

Don't listen to him; he puts regular in his R-Spec. ;)
(It's good advice. Took me months to find my CPO turd)

I'd add that that I disagree with the mechanics on the break-in. Beat the car in, seat the rings, and enjoy life. Motoman style.

Go for the 2013 the 2012 is a headache. although I love the car, if I would have known what I would have to deal with I would have bought a 2013. The 2012 I bought was the right car and the right time but before I knew about the issue.

I found a 2013 R-Spec with 19K miles and negociated the price to $28.5K only 100 miles from me. It's a private party sale though so no CPO =[. Conditional on my inspection and approval of the car, I will be purchasing it next week.

Is there anything in particular that I should look out for during the test drive/inspection?

Drive it long enough to check out that the adaptive cruise control works correctly and the Lane Departure System is also working correctly. They likely are, but they are expensive to repair.

Talk to a dealer about what is involved in transferring the warranty.
