If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Help: Any Genesis owners who ‘upgraded’ to an Equus? Everyone's input is welcomed..

I was planning to upgrade the 4.6 2009 sometime around 2017-18 around the Genesis MCE refresh cycle, however there are some very tempting 2014 Equus offers around, that is making me entertain the idea of going in that direction instead!?

I promised my favorite dealer (now exclusively service both of my cars) that I will buy my next Hyundai from them provided that they would match or exceed my ‘deal’ expectations. So last week they reached out to me with a very tempting offer on a new (‘demo’ 65-530 miles, they have three!) 2014 Equus Signature. So here is where I stand;

1 – Getting them down to $45k was relatively easy.
2 – I said I ‘need’ 20k for my 4.6 2009 (=KBB no. + 2k, 52k miles in show room condition other than the chronic flaking wheel paint!!) .
3 – After some more arm twisting, I got them to agree to a free 3/36k miles service(s)!
4 – On late Friday I walked away because they would not agree to throw in HMA 7 year 75k miles warranty there, because the ‘big chief’ was not there to make the call!? So I will get my answer on Monday…

Good deal? I am sure most would agree that this deal would be a good candidate for ‘the deal of century’ category, because in essence I would be walking out with a wonderful and worthy replacement for essentially the price of a loaded Veloster!.... However….

The $1M question is will I be happy with the Equus?

I come from a long line of performance cars and still love these cars, if today money was not a factor? I would choose a Tesla P85D without blinking an eye and would use the ‘insane’ button everyday and twice on Sunday…:D

I also know that age is only a number, but as time is passing by, the urge is subsiding and I will still have the R-Spec (which the Mrs. will gladly inherits with a big smile )…

As you can see I have a big dilemma, if they say yes to #4 on Monday should I go for it? I just have never been on the fence before?

On this site we try hard to shy away from giving ‘advice’, but would I really would appreciate your input and advice of both Equus and Geni owners, so I can make up my mind, should I do the sensible thing with little to no passion with this transaction!?

As final thought, the 4.6 is going to need around $5k this year, 60k miles service, around $2-3k to extend the HMA warranty by 3-5 years, plus new tires and maybe wheels…

You made a great case, based on your situation to make the deal and get the Equus... The right pricing generally for the Signature 2014.. It will be as fast as the 4.6. You still have the R-Spec, the Equus will be hands down more satisfying at this point. And expect a 5-10k increase in price for the refresh Equus over 2015 list numbers. No way you can find a new title Equus again over the years for $44k and get decent trade for your 4.6. In your shoes, would be no brainier for me. Hope this helps.

I hope the $5K was not for the 60K miles service!

Came from a 2011 4.6 Genny and got a 2014 Equus Signature and couldn't be happier! :)

A year old this month and nary a problem compared to my Genny.

I too am a former Genesis owner, having had four models. I am very pleased with all aspects of the 2014 Equus Signature.
My Equus was also a "demo" with about 1000mi. and net price of about $45K.

Most, if not all, "demos" are not titled by the dealerships. They run on dealer plates. What this means is that the buyer is the first owner of the car and is then entitled to all the warranties and benefits of a new Equus owner - 3yr/36 mo. maintenance and other full warranties. An untitled demo is considered as a "new car" in all respects.

From the beginning of your post you sound like you were leaning towards a Genesis. If you are open to the Equus, that is an amazing offer and the trade in offer as well. The money you are saving from the trade in and not spending that extra 5k on the service and other goodies you might need on the 4.6, i would say go for it!

Just came home with my new 2014 Equus. I traded my 2014 R-Spec that had only 7800 miles on it. I needed the room the Equus offers. My experience with the dealer, Young Hyundai, outside Dallas, TX was as I expected...wonderful!!!! I had no plans to do anything when I got up this morning.....Oh well....that changed after lunch. We went to have my car washed....instead of a clean R-Spec...We have a new Equus. Impulsive....probably..... Happy? Definitely thrilled!!

Is that some kind of record? Someone traded in a 2014 for 2014?

I'll bet it was the soft cushy ride on the Equus that got you.

How much they give you for your rspec? How much was the equus? Did you think about a ls460 or was your mind always on an equus?

Congratulations on the purchase, I love the equus and definitely see myself trading up

I got a very fair trade for the Genesis I had an LS430 before my Genesis. I'm not a fan of the new body style of the LS460. The Equus Signature is terrific. I love the Dealer - Rockwall Hyundai - outstanding experience.....

We received a very fair trade / value. I'm not really fond of the LS460 and like the low profile of the Equus....

Probably a record.....The R-Spec is a fabulous car, I just needed a bit more room. The ride can be adjusted, Snow, Eco, Sport....not a track car....that's ok. I'm in traffic.....wished it could be a Jetson's car from time to time........The room is very welcomed. My wife even commented the Equus reminded her of our '05 LS430.....

Sounds like the perfect car despite the gas mileage. Congratulations and any pictures?

That's... Awesome! What a great day it must have been. Sounds like my kind of day. :p The Equus is a more "luxurious" car than the Genesis - which has a large dose of "sport" in it - for a luxury sedan. The Equus has more room in the rear and a softer ride. It's another Hyundai that I really love. Congratulations!

Purchased a used 2012 Genesis (Base) last year. I really enjoyed the car. It met my needs for a roomy vehicle. I didn't need the tech features. Fast forward to March 2015, I visited my local Hyundai dealer in search of a car for my daughter. While waiting on the sales consultant to get the keys for a 2015 Hyundai Sonata Sport 2.0t, I saw a white 2011 Equus Ultimate (white) with less that 25,500 miles. Took a test drive of it instead of the Sonata. Returned to the dealer and made an offer on the Equus. The rest is history. I have been very pleased with the car and service provided by Autonation Hyundai, Mall of GA. The Equus Service Advisor, Dalton, has provided top notch service. Highly recommend you visit them if you are in the area.
