  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Any suggestions for keyfob holder?

that works great 09genesis. Should we be upset that this key fits into a cell phone case? :D
I certainly am. I had an Infiniti spare key that fit in my wallet. The whole card+metal key was barely the thickness of 2 credit cards. There is no reason they couldn't fit the electronics nor the buttons on the spare space of that card.

Just got an email today from KAI that they no longer carry the ESI holders for the keys. They couldnt get a time frame of when these would be available so they are giving me a full refund.

As "09Genesis" said, the key could be thinner, however the thickness does not bother me.

I visit France and Italy every three years or so, and I always lease a Renault Laguna. (not offered this year at www.renaultusa.com but others just as good) The last two Laguna's I leased had the electronic key that was about the thickness of two credit cards. In 2002, the key had to be placed into a slot in the dashboard.

In 2006, it just had to be carried on your person. When I would walk near the car, the car would unlock without me touching anything. (I could hear it). When I walked away, the car would lock without me touching anything. (again, I could hear it. Worked great.

I'm not going this year, perhaps I'm glad, because they don't offer the Laguna for lease, at least not yet. If I do go, I guess I will have to get a Megane. (Laguna is a better car)

Do the Renault electronic keys allow for remote opening of the trunk, or for sound an alarm? Do they provide the same anti-theft protection?

From what I understand the Genesis Smart Key is almost identical (and may have been purchased from same vendor) as some of the expensive German cars.

The Renault Laguna key does the same thing as the Genesis Smart Key. It has a thin regular key that slides into the edge for emergencies. I remember it had buttons on it, but don't remember what the buttons were for. Like I said before, when I would walk close to the car, it would unlock by itself. I did not have to push anything. When I would walk away from the car, it would lock by itself. (I.E., no need for a lock/unlock button like the Genesis Smart Key).

While on the subject of the Laguna I leased in 2006, about the only thing I did not like about the car was when I would push the stop button (I.E. Shut the engine down) the Parking Brake would go on automaticlly. Yes, Automatic Parking Brake - No Parking Brake Lever. On start up, (manual transmission) place in 1st gear, and when you engage the clutch, the Automatic Parking Brake goes off. Strange. I did not like it because when having to stop on a hill, waiting for traffic to clear, you either have to have a very fast foot going from the brake to accelerator, (which my wife can't do) or you have to slip the clutch (bad for the clutch). What I ended up doing was I would shut the engine off so the Automatic Parking Brake would engage, restart the engine and once traffic cleared, I would engage the clutch and only then would the parking brake disengage.

With the fob for my Azera in my pocket, I was always accidently pressing one of the buttons, leaving my trunk unlatched or my doors locked in my garage, and once I was kneeling by the front bumper and the "panic" button was pressed, proving to me that human levitation is possible.

So I finally separated the key from the fob and I wear the fob on a carabiner clip attached to my belt. I added a soft leather ID tag to the key and carry that in my pocket...

While reading your post, I was afraid the final line was going to say "when I am not wearing pants...." Thankfully that's not the case....I hope!

Dan :>)

Assuming that we all wear pants, I used to work at a marine hardward manufacturer and we made small brass clips that were used for attaching sails to the cable attached to the mass. We all used these clips to attach our keys to our belt loops on our pants. Thirty years later I still find and use them.
