  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have a 2012 Genesis sedan. Horrible to no AM radio reception at all. Total static across the board. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Oh dear lord, what is this, 1960!!??

Why would you need AM radio in the year 2019???

p.s. There is nothing you can do to fix it. Plus you said your radio is dying anyway.

LOL. I just use it when my phone dies and I have no bluetooth. I do not think it is the unit since the FM works great. It is an antenna issue of some kind. Also some local sport only come in on AM.

Respect your elders.

Phone dies? As in physically stops working? The car has USB port that charges phones as well as power outlets that you can add usb adapter to to use for power. Phone dying isn't really an issue in this car.

Sorry, I was not clear. I meant if I happen to be driving and my phone is dead and I forgot the charging cable. I like to use AM. Simply justifying why some of us still use AM. : >

Ahh

I always keep a spare cable in my center console so that scenario will never happen. I suggest your try that trick. :)

It may be that you live in the sticks. ??

It may be that you have tinted your rear window with the wrong kind of tint. ??

My ‘12 has fair reception. Nothing impressive, but good enough.

You could easily and cheaply add a Bluetooth adapter to your console and connect as mentioned above. I have a seniors unlimited data plan with T-Mobile. Check it out.

what's AM radio...…………………..

The stock AM radio in both the '09 and the '12 tech trim 4.6's has been weaker than my wife's solara or my chevy. Some radios are just better than others, and the Genny's AM radio is on the weakest end of the scale.

Suggestion: In addition to the above re: rear window antenna, you could check to see if the antenna lead fell out of the back of the head unit...

I listen to many talk radio shows on AM that are not on FM. Maybe you don't want AM but it doesn't mean the rest of the world doesn't!

My guess is .000006% of car buyers in the year 2019+ even use AM, heck, probably most buyers don't even know what "AM" radio means!

You are right “the rest of the world doesn’t” (want AM).

I don't know of any cars that have a radio that is FM only. The facts are AM radio still has listeners and while I agree it is a dying format, its easy to integrate it in the radio with the FM band. Again, I don't use it for music, just talk radio. If talk radio is on FM, then I'll listen to it.
