  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I just bought a 15 rwd with tech package and it has the amber daytime running lights. previous owner had installed 24x7 fogs and it is on along with the DRL so I would like to just run with the fogs only.
i can turn the DRL off via stalk but then i lose the auto light function. I found some threads about 1g models having a fuse for the DRL. I checked with the dealer and they said fogs are controlled through the BCM so it can't be disabled. Anyone know if this can be done?

First off the DRLs are controlled by the stalk switch and the IGPM (co located with the interior fuse box under the driver's side steering wheel area). With a few exceptions the old system of relays, and fuses have been replaced by the CAN bus comm system and IPSs (Intelligent power switches) which are solid state devices integrated into modules like the BCM and IGPM. About the only what to get access and control over the various lighting functions is thru the connectors between the IPS and the light or at the light itself. HOWEVER, one should realize that if one does something like shorting something out, etc. and damages something like an IPS, these are not serviceable like replacing a fuse or relay and necessitate replacing costly ($100s) higher level modules like the IPGM or BCM.

I haven't confirmed it, but the DRL might be able to be disabled by pulling two wires on either the headlight connector or a connector on the IGPM. Would that effect something like the turn signals .... I don't know.

it sounds more complicated than i thought then...i'm wondering if the DRL is constant power and the turn signal just interrupts the power and if that is the case then unplugging wires would not be a solution. Unless turn signal is separate from the DRL i don't see any way it can be disabled without either losing the auto function or losing the turn signal.

It appears from the schematics that the turn and DRL are on different connectors in the headlight connector so removing just the pin for the DRL might disable that function only, but one would have to comfirm that.

Here is the pin out for the headlight connector:

I never use the Auto function for the H/L since I garage my car and in Auto the lights come on almost every time I pull into the garage .

thanks for that diagram...so pin 12 is for the DRL...i will try disconnecting that pin when i get a chance. you do raise a valid point about the lights coming on immediately upon entering the garage and i was initially surprised there wasn't a delay like in my other car which is a 12 Optima. Wonder why that feature is missing on the Genesis since this will likely contribute to premature failure of the HID bulbs.

The reason the auto lights come on when the light level drops (coming into a garage for instance) is because of tunnels.

Not to be a smartass but I just turn lights from 'auto' to 'off' and that solves the problem..

not sure if there's a wire on the harness, but inside the headlight the pin 12 for the DRL (they mean the white strip in full brightness mode on that diagram) is not connected on US 2015 MY cars. I'll know more this weekend when I tackle this: http://genesisowners.com/hyundai-genesis-forum/showthread.php?20825-LED-headlight-strips-as-DRL
