If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

If you have the tech package, do you get annoyed at night by the "bright" green instrument panel light that tells you that both your tail lights are on?

To me it's too bright, and is distracting on a long drive at night. It also does not dim with the dash lights, so it's that much more annoying!

Yeah, it's picky but . . .

Thoughts?

Re: Anybody else get annoyed by this?

I understand what you mean, but fortunately I keep my steering wheel at a level that covers it up. ...So I don't see it unless I duck under it.

You may be able to tape a tinted filter to the back side of the panel to make it less annoying.

YUP!!

1. I really don't care to know if my taillights are on--I assume they would be or else get a warning indication.

2. It is too bright and distracting!

Thought I was the only member who would be picky about this--very weird setup!

Would somebody please post a picture?

Re: Anybody else get annoyed by this?

That's a good idea. I've never heard of a light to tell you that the lights are on, only to tell you that one is out. Sounds like a place Hyundai can save a few pennies per car.

I think that's the light to tell you that your headlights are on, and then there's another one beside it to tell you that your foglights are on. To my knowledge, there is not an indicator light for your taillights.

That said, I don't like that little green light either. It gets very bright (relatively) when all else is dimmed and its really dark outside. My dad used to put a piece of electrical tape over the bright-light indicator in his Datsun B210 b/c it was so bright.

Re: Anybody else get annoyed by this?

This makes at least a bit more sense. I've seen foglight on indicators before.

Is there also a warning tone if you exit the car with the lights on?

Most importantly: any warning if the turn signal is on for more than ten or so seconds? This would be good to have in all cars, but only a few have a feature where the click gets progressively louder.

Re: Anybody else get annoyed by this?

Nope, the manual states that it is the indicator for the TAIL lights. I guess they figure that you can see the headlights out, but not the tail lights. But it should be a LOT dimmer. I haven't tried "hiding" the light behind the wheel, but that may be the quick way to get less annoyed!

Why do you need to know if your taillights come on? Usually a light will come on when one of the bulbs burn out.

Re: Anybody else get annoyed by this?

Here's the manual:

"Parking light position"
When the light switch is in the parking
light position (1st position), the tail,
license and instrument panel lights are
ON and the tail light indicator is ON

Re: Anybody else get annoyed by this?

RedRocks is correct: the only indicator that comes on (normal-night time, light stalk switch set to AUTO, low beam lights on) is the rather too bright, non-dimming, TAIL LIGHT INDICATOR.

Seems that an update to software could "connect" this to dimmer dial???

Re: Anybody else get annoyed by this?

Seems this was programmed backwards by accident. Like others here state this just doesn't make sense.

Re: Anybody else get annoyed by this?

So, does everyone have this issue with the tail light indicator being "on" when the control stalk is set to Auto?

Actually, anytime the tail lights are "on" the light will light. Don't know if one will go "out" if a tail light fails. The Fog light indicator is a separate light.

Seems to be an OVERSEAS thing. My Camry has this same issue since 2005. When the lights are on, I have a bright orange indicator that tells me my lights are on. Now, the Genesis has TWO! This must be some requirement for Japan and Korea...here is the kicker though...my parents have an 04 Camry and no light on the display. Their car is considered American made. Mine however is a TRD 5-Speed shipped directly from Japan and mine has the light display. So, that really does lead me to believe it is something overseas.

Well, thats my thoughts.:D

Beginning to sound like another problem that Hyundai needs to address. Is there a thread for a list of known problems that folks have been experiencing?

I think the Genesis has this light, which would be better called a "parking light indicator" because it has electroluminescent gauges that are always illuminated while driving, even when the light switch is on the "off" position. With regular gauges, they light up when you turn the parking lights on, so you don't need an indicator light as the guage lights themselves function as an indicator light.

PINGGOLF, in 2005, Toyota started putting the "Optitron" gauges in the Camry, which are basically electroluminescent and are always illuminted. Your parents' '04 shouldn't have them, hence, no light.

I assumed the 2 green lights were for headlight and foglight. It only comes on when the sun goes down and headlights auto-on . I will turn off the fog light and see if one green indicator goes off...

As to if it is too bright a green it never occurred to me.

One green light is for the foglights. The other is for the parking lights (or tail lights in the manual), but since we almost never just turn on the parking lights, we associate this light with the headlights. At least, that's what I did. But it actually comes on with the parking lights and remains on when the headlights are on.
