  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Been thinking about buying one but I don't want to waste the money if it doesn't work

If you mean the Genesis Smart Key Card I have one and so does a few others here. They work just fine as long as you purchase one compatible with your model and have the dealer program it properly. I don't know if it’s true or not but I heard that they can't be reprogrammed to another car from my dealer so I would make sure you are buying a new one unless you confirm they can be in fact re-programmed to a new car.

yeah the programming is a one shot deal, once programmed they can't be reprogrammed to another vehicle, the MBZ and Lexus Smart Key Card are the same way.

I prefer the Smart Card, as it fits in my minimalist front pocket wallet and I no longer carry any keys for anything, my house is all smart locks as well.

my only complaint about it: the range is very limited.. there are times where I walk up to the car and the car won't pick up the key because I am wearing thick jeans and I guess the signal can't get through the material because if I pull out my wallet then it works fine.

How much is the dealer charging to program??

Been using mine since the car was new and it's been great. Don't miss carrying around the fob in my pocket either. I've only changed the battery once, but got the message on my dash today saying "low battery" for the key card. Slick - and standard equipment on my 2015 Canadian Genesis 5.0!

1 hour labor rate. My dealer charged $120. Some charge less. Here in CA the rates are between $75-$150 depending on the area.

Mine came with one and it stays in a drawer with my spare key. I might bring it with me if I'm going to be wearing something fancy but for the most part, the regular key just stays in the little coin pocket on my pants.

My dealer charged me $80 if I remember correctly to program it. Called a few dealers and prices were anywhere from $60-100+ I just went with the dealer across the street since they already had the car in for service.

Thanks. They aren't selling genesis in Louisiana, so impossible to get any straight answers from the service dept.

buy the key online, they are at least 30% cheaper here than at the dealer:

programming follow standard Hyundai procedure, and it comes with the service manual print out of how to do it so you can give it to Hyundai tech and they can perform the task.

FYI, make sure they know that the regular key fobs have to be OUT OF RANGE once they start the process, otherwise it will not pick up the smart key, they instructions say this and I told the tech and he still kept them in the car, he told me he knew how to do this and it was the smart card that was bad..
I finally had to walk over point it out to him in the printout then grab the original fobs and walk 50 yards away for him to get it through his thick head.

Before I purchase a smart key card can anyone tell me if they were able to have it programmed for a 15' 5.0 in the states. Ive been told yes and no!?!?

Accessories for Hyundai 2015 Genesis is the site for 2015s and the smart card isn't listed as an option. it's not to say it won't work with the 2018 version, but I don't know if the frequencies are the same or if Hyundai changed things between 2015 and 2018.

If the 17 G80 supports it, I don't see why the 15 wouldn't. It wasn't refreshed until 18 right?

I got a key card for my 2019 G80 sport.

The dealer programming cost was expensive. And I was told very challenging for them to do it.

I haven't changed the battery yet but I often get low battery messages on the dashboard.

I'm not sure what that's about because the message shows the image of the key fob and not the key card. 🤷

I would say rarely very rarely do I ever use the key fob. I keep the key fobs in a secure pouch in which the fob radio signals don't get out or cause drainage in theory because they're not being used.

I never had a problem opening or starting the car with the key card.

Change your battery in your keycard. Just did mine and ordered it from Walmart on line. The car doesn’t know the difference between a fob and a keycard.

Could you please offer any instructions on 1) which battery is used and 2) how to manually change / open the case to the battery on the wallet key card?

Occasionally when I get into the car I get a message on the dashboard that the battery is low.

I want to be sure I know how to change the battery.

Thanks.

CR2412 is the battery. The top edge of your key card has a slot. Work your thumb nail in and the thin plastic “drawer” will slide out containing the battery. Take not of how it is oriented. Replace the same way. I haven’t been able to find CR2412 batteries anywhere but on the net. Ordered from Walmart since many other sources had bad reviews of sending dead knock off batteries. At least Walmart is returnable at a store should they be bad. Good so far (2 weeks in). Mine last about 1.5 years.
