  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have been looking for a dashcam that supports parked mode recording (viewed motion or car bumped). Most that I've found have a device that inserts between the battery and the camera as well as a connection to the ACC ON switched power. When parked the device monitors the voltage of the battery and disconnects when it reaches a preset low voltage point. I see some companies offer an external battery for this purpose but at outrageous pricing.

I have several lithium batteries that I could use. I can build a simple charging device to recharge it when the car is running. The question really is, where is a good place to install the battery? The one I have in mind is for an electric bicycle. Its about 6-7" long X 2" X 2". The control circuit box will probably end up being a 4" cube.

Any ideas?

Try behind the glove box?

same issue - parking mode requires power all the time
  • FITCAMX Fuse Box Cable Hardwire kit, 4in1 ATO (Regular), Mini, Micro2, Low-profile mini

After connecting the fuse box, there will be a parking mode function. The parking mode means that the dash camera will start to records while a collision happens. Not continuous video recording.…$56.00

I don't want the camera powered directly from the battery when in parking mode. I want to install a separate battery, charged when the car is running, to power the camera when the ignition is off. The brand of camera only matters when I compare the current draw in it's 'sleep mode' and whether it supports 'collision' in the park mode AND 'motion'.
The biggest issue right now is where to put the battery. SoCalG90's suggestion behind the glove box seems promising. I'm going to look under the dash tomorrow.
