  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Anybody installed the chrome strip?

Installing the strips was easier than telling my wife I love her in order to get a little action. If I can do it, you can do. It will make your baby look like a million dollars for$69.00

I installed them myself. Not a problem and they really make the car look great. I had the dealer installed the hood and trunk badges, don't want to mess with that. I chose not to go with the wheel caps, because living in Florida, is like puting a sign on your windshield,"Have Wheel Badges Please Take Me". My Genesis is the first V8 sold in West Palm Beach, black on black and the only thing missing to make the picture complete is " After Market Wheels".Once I get them instal, I will post pictures of my "Baby".

:welcome: and congrats on your new ride. You will be easy to spot around the state as you may be the only one in FL without the wing wheel caps. Then again, you will be easy to spot as the only 4.6 with custom wheels. :D

Just curious, what chrome did you install? This thread is about the strips along the bottom of the door, and that is standard equipment on a 4.6 :(

I think by the price he listed in the first post that he installed the chrome pillar strips on the doors.

Yes. I did install the chrome strips on the pillars. My 4.6 came with the chrome on the bottom of the door.

Installed the strips from KAI myself. It was pretty easy. It took about 20 minutes to do. Get a couple flat head screwdrivers (one medium sized one and one small jewelers type screwdriver). Make sure to work on removing the existing strips from the point where the front door and rear door are adjacent to each other (or in other words start from the rear of the front door and the front of the rear door). Open the front door and gently wedge the existing strip with the jewelers screwdriver. Once you get a big enough wedge, insert the medium screwdriver making sure you cover it with a cloth so you don't mangle the finish on the car. Twist the screwdriver and pull the strip away firmly, with constant pressure. You should hear a pop as you pull the strip away from the little plastic connector. Keep popping the strip off until it is separated from all the connectors and removed from the car.
Don't worry about the little white connectors that remain in the door; rotate them 90 degrees and they come out of the door quite easily. Then take some quick detailing solution and clean the spot where the strip was. There will probably be some sticky stuff from the double sided tape. Plus it gets quite dirty behind these strips. Take your new chrome strip, remove the peel for the double sided tape and pop the connectors into the holes in your door. Press hard to get the double sided tape to adhere, but don't press too hard. The sheet metal really flexes. Repeat for the rear door (the front door stays open and you begin wiggling the strip at the front of the rear door). Then do the other side. 20 minutes tops. One other comment: you can find cheaper strips online at eBay vs KAI, but the eBay strips have to be shipped from Korea and after you add the shipping, its better to get them from KAI (I think KAI is actually located in Phoenix).
CHUMAN

Great instructions, Just got my strips! Will post how it went tomorrow. Thanks again. Probably saved me an afternoon and $100. :D

Your instructions were so good and i wanted to see how it looked so bad I whent ahead and did it completely while waiting in garage for wife to finalize the getting ready, close the house and get in the car! 20 minutes with time to spare.

I changed the process just a little bit:

1. Once the relatively thin screw driver lifted the trim strip end I just pulled the trim strip off.
2. Took a pair of needle nose pliers to turn and remove the plastic connectors.
3. Wiped the area very clean.
4. Removed adhesive strip protector from car side of trim strip.
5. Positioned the new trim
6. Popped connectors in with a quick hand slap directly at each connector location.
7. Pealed the protection plastic off.
8. Wiped the strip hard to seat the 3M adhesive.

Did them all at once.

When finished got the car going and still waited. But I did get a "Hey I like the new trim" as she got in.
