  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Anybody negotiate different tires and/or winter wheels and tires into a new lease deal?

I'm getting closer to making a move and with summer tires on the 2.0 M/T I'm looking at immediate required expense if I get a car before spring. Are dealers in cold climates considering this at all when selling cars in winter?

I would imagine typically no as this is an easy extra to make money on later. The few people that do have winter tires "thrown in" are probably simply paying for them one way or another depending on where money is shown on the invoice. I did it this way with a new car years ago, winter tires "thrown in" but the discount on the car was deducted less. If you can get the tires for dealer cost & pay for balance/installation you'll be ahead anyways as well. You could use that as a negotiating tactic.

I buy my winter wheels and tires separately, then depending on what car I (or my wife) get next, the winter set can be re-used or very easily sold on in discussion forum classifieds.

No doubt it would be cheaper to source my own winter setup from Tirerack, was just curious if anyone saw dealers being accommodating as depending on how late in season it could be downright dangerous to drive off the lot in summer tires even with no snow on the ground.

I have a case in with VW asking them to buy back my 2017 Sportwagen as it's in the shop for the 7th time for a CEL misfire with 17K on the clock. Fingers crossed they buy it back--that will give me direction on how soon I can make the move to the G70. Even if they don't buy it back I'll likely actively start shopping and see what dealers are willing to give me a decent trade offer as part of a lease/purchase deal. The same 9 M/T G70s I've kept my eye on for the past 3 months are still sitting on lots within a 250 mile radius of me so I'm hoping that with 2020 models around the corner they'll want them off the floor.

Sorry to hear about your Sportwagen. Our 2010 Sportwagen TDI got bought back during dieselgate. Speaking of which, I still have the summer wheels/tires for it sitting in my garage, got to sell them.

Thanks man--mine's a 1.8T 4motion gasser, and a car I was super excited about...I bought it "as a smart financial move" for the warranty after my second hand but very loved Audi D3 S8 cost me dearly in emissions-related repairs at 80K miles after 30K of trouble free fun. Turns out it's been in the shop more than out of it for the past almost 4 months now. I'm unfortunately not holding my breath on VW doing 'the right thing' and if so, the brand will be dead to me despite my first car being a Mk3 Jetta 2.Slow and a Mk6 GTI before the S8. Onward regardless, but if VW steps up I'll be a future buyer, just not for the next car. I'm 100% sold on the G70 manual.
