  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

so our 14' rspec has about 1200 miles on it now and the chrome trim around the bumper is almost totally black and the bumper is now turning black.. Seems like the car is running real rich. Anyone else seen that?

Has been brought up many times before. Has to do with the GDI engine. Normal for both 3.8 and 5.0 GDI engines.

It comes off pretty easily as long as you keep up with it.

"Simple Green" will wipe it off in seconds.

if you dont already try using premium gas. I used to go back n fourth from 87 to 93 and noticed after using 93 all the time. I didnt get very much blk smut on the tips.. But that could also be due to the motor being broken in.

I've used both fuels. After 13000 miles of driving I can tell you that fuel doesn't matter. It's just a GDI engine thing. It washes off. And it's not only Hyundai. It's GDI systems.

The problem is that the exhaust pipes exit in the middle of the painted rear bumper. Same problem with similar cars like the dual exhaust Fusion.

Weird thing is our Cadillac is direct injection and never does this. So I wouldn't say its just a direct injection problem. I am going to look at the difference in tips between the Cad and the Genny. It is good to know that I am not the only one seeing this though.

I used steel wool the other day to get a bunch of the buildup off. I'm not getting it on my bumper like you are though, just the chrome tips.
I also floor it every time I get on the interstate (at least twice a day) so I don't really get much for particle buildup in my exhaust.
Is your car white?

I use a nylon scrubber pad to clean the exhaust tips. Don't use it on paint, though.

Yes our car is white. Ok it sounds normal so i will just keep it clean. Thanks for the help
