  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My car is a 2013 Genesis sedan 5.0 R-Spec. Last night after a trip to the store I came back to my car, unlocked and got in.
After closing the door I noticed the dash welcome deal with the chime didn't activate and when I went to start the car, the brake pedal was hard and the car did not start with the button.
I got out of the car, locked it, then unlocked it, got in and still no chime, nothing.
I decided to lock the car and do a remote start with the bluelink off my phone.
That worked! The car started and I was able to continue my drive home.
Since then I haven't had an issue but I'm worried that it will happen again at some inopportune time,(fleeing zombies), or something along those lines.
Thanks in advance for any info.

Try changing the battery in the smart key.

When my car battery was on the way out it would do strange things when trying to lock/unlock and start the car.

Thanks guys! I spoke with my boss who owns an Equus and he said the symptoms matched his when his fob battery went south.
I changed it out this morning.
I just thought it was weird how it would let me into the locked car but be dead as a door nail when I went to start it.
Thankfully, the car started with the Bluelink remote app and let me drive it home.

2013 Rspec here as well, with ~17k on ODO. Absolutely nothing since I bough her ~19 months ago.

I'm going on 35k on mine. You just wait! I see a cr2032 battery in your future. :)

I would recommend replacing the battery in both smart keys after 3 years maximum. I don't think the number of miles makes a difference (but not 100% sure). You can buy a 2-pack of the CR2032 battery at Walmart for about $8.00.

I have to replace my key fob batteries every spring. I don't think they like to sitting unused all winter during storage.

Low voltage in the car battery can do very strange things to the electronics. So after you replace the fob batteries, get the main car battery checked as well.
