  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Car wouldn't start yesterday in the parking lot of Walmart. Symptom: All lights/electronics working full strength, push start results in one click and no start. Removed battery and had it tested - good. Bought a jack from Walmart and jacked it up, removed the skid plate beneath the engine, found what looked like a starter (against the transmission on the driver side of the underside of the engine, had a Remy Korea sticker with a part number that Googled up to a starter motor), so I knocked on it with my socket wrench handle and it had no problem starting right up after that. So, knowing what I know the starter solenoid is probably failing and will need to be replaced soon. Anyone ever replaced a starter on these cars?

It may be the starter, but it may not be. I've seen conditions like that and found a bad contact in the wires, not the starter itself. Check the ground and the cable to the starter motor and any relays that may be involved. Clean them up and give it a try. If you are lucky it is a cheap fix.

Rather than trying to guess what it might be if there is an auto electric shop near you let them diagnose it. These guys are great specialists at this and can save a lot of time and frustration. Often these guys if it is a starter can rebuild yours for a better and cheaper repairs. Curt

I'm looking more for experience getting to the starter, or if not possible with weekend warrior tools, estimate for R+I.

Thanks!

Starter contacts inside is usually what wore out, had to do that to my starter for my Toyota, two small copper contacts for total of 16 bucks. you open the back end of the starts and replace the contacts.

Is the solenoid inside the starter or external????? If it's external, it might be an easy fix.
