  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

The Acura Legend used to be a Car on my 'List'. I drove Honda Accords for many years and loved them.

I have not paid much attention to the Acura RL lately. Saw a Commercial on TV about it. Looks to be a pretty good car that competes in the area of the Genesis.

Anyone here drove it? How does it stack up to our Genny?...Yes I know it seems to cost about $15K more;)

Yeah, I saw something on the new RLX, but then I saw the price:(, and this--"The 2014 RLX has a 310-hp V-6 engine". I'm sure it's an extremely high quality and sophisticated vehicle, but I want my V8!

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I guess not too many were very impressed.

I personally would not pay any attention to what a reviewer says. They are ridiculously jaded, and don't really care what it costs. The WSJ gave the Genesis pretty mediocre reviews when it came out.

I liked:

Quieter than the old RL

Bigger than the old RL

Even more tech. than the old RL

I didn't like:

No faster than the old RL

Even more sleepy styling than the old RL

Holy &%*# asking price of 60K+ and the dealers aren't dealing.

Pass.

Give it the nose of an S-class, a V8, rear wheel drive, and drop the price by $20k and you'll have a hell of a car...

...oh wait.

I visited a local Acura dealer 2 weeks ago, drawn by their marketing gimmick, test drove a 2014 RLX but wasn't impressed enough to switch from my 4.6 Genesis. Performance and handling wise, I would put it slight above the Sonata and way below the 3.8 Genesis. I was quoted 62K with comparable options in a 2013 5.0 R-spec. I ended up trading in my 4.6 for the 2013 5.0 R-spec. Another gimmick they use is to call their 2013-made car "2014".

Oh really? Hyundai introduced the current generation of the Sonata n the USA in January 2010 as a 2011 model. It has done similar releases with other models. This is standard practice in the auto industry, especially for first year models of a particular generation.

I am not aware of any automaker that introduces a new car in a particular calendar year that is not called the next year's model.

Correct. Further, if the vehicle is built in the 8th month of the year or beyond, it is classified as the following year. ie: build date of 8/2013 is a 2014.

The amount of interior noise alone would prevent me from purchasing an RLX. I just don't get what Honda has against sound-deadening their vehicles. I believe they are the worst of all manufactureres in their respective price categories.

The 2013 Accord Touring sedan I had last weekend in Chicago was leaps and bounds better (just as good as my better half's 2010 A5--so she mentioned) in interior cabin noise reduction over the past 8 and 8.5 generation. This was over variable concrete surfaces and many varying speeds.

A shame to hear they didn't apply the same to a car in their lineup that costs about 2x as much.

I would not assume that is accurate with regard to the 2014 RLX. I don't think many have actually driven the 2014 RLX.

The car is definitely quiet and had a solid, quality feel to it. Much more so than any Accord, new or old. I could not see where the car was 20K+ better than the Genesis however.

Its not 20k+ more for top vs. top. We still dont know the pricing on the 2014 Genesis sedan just yet.

Service Now and then will be better than of the Genesis sedan.

I own a 2006 Acura TL and can get a 2013 Loaded TL while my car is being serviced. (even for a simple oil change if I dont feel like waiting) Thats something Hyundai or my local dealer hasn't quiet managed just yet.

I dont think hyundai needs to separate dealers but do think they need to treat the Genesis and Equus customer better than what they do for the money we are paying. Ex. If a Acura dealer had 5 RLX's (2) will be for sale (2) would be for customers in service and (1) for customer test driving. (this is the way my local dealer handle that anyway). You would get an MDX if an RLX wasn't available. (all of these are top models, not base).

My local dealer does quite well in sales even though Acura sales are slow. (Acura sales typically 12k-15k across the line per month)

Yes we happened to own a 2013 Gen Coupe along with a 06 Acura TL. We also have a loaded 2013 Santa Fe Sport turbo.

I didn't compare a R-Spec to the RLX because the Acura doesn't have a V8 offering. The new RLX was over 20K more than my 2013 V6 Genesis with every possible option. The RLX was still 15-18K more than the price I could have paid for a 2013 R-Spec. The RLX isn't in the same class as an Equus at all.
I didn't go to every dealer, but I know the local boys and they said no one is dealing on 2014's. I have had good service from them in the past on a MDX we had, but rarely got a MDX for a loaner. If you have a Genesis coupe or Santa Fe, you're not driving a Genesis sedan or Equus, so I'm not sure why you'd expect one of those for a loaner. I've never had a loaner AMG from a MB dealer but I've owned 3. I'm not comparing dealers or service, I'm comparing cars and it sounds like you have a problem with your Hyundai dealer.

There isn't any car on the market that compares price/feature wise with the Genesis. All of the serious competition is at least $15K more. Another way of looking at that is: why can Hyundai only get $15K less than the Genesis is really worth? I think we know the main reason for that--public perception about Hyundai (whether it is deserved or not).

No offense to anyone.e who likes the RLX, but I would never even consider owning one. IMO, the RLX is, at the very least, $20K overpriced. Most, if not all, of its features can found on a comparable Azera, Cadenza or Avalon. And if I was looking to spend that kind of money on a large car, I'd probably just get an Equus. At least then I'd have a proper V8 and RWD layout and way more features for my $60K+. That goes for the XTS as well.

That new mdx is pretty sweet on the other hand

My local dealer tries to hold Acura SUV for SUV owners and RL or RLX for RL/RLX owners.
I typically get a TL or an TSX. I normally drop my car off late in the evening or first thing in the morning to assure I get a TL of my choosing;). Now with that said; they are basically letting people test drive a demo and near new car hoping that when you come back that you are wanting the new car. One of the salesmen normally hang out in service area for that very reason. (don't know if hes having any luck or not) Bottom line for my local dealer is they are using their loaners as trade bate. The service person would however put me in a RDX if I mentioned anything about an SUV for the same reason.

I think its smart business, because you have a chance to enjoy the car without salesman pressure.

If you buy a car or have to wait on another car coming from a dealer (our case 10 days) they actually put us in a 06 TL while we waited for ours to come in. (10 days was due to 5 days for transport and the other 5 was waiting on the rear spoiler we wanted) That same car had approx 40 miles on the odometer when we purchase. We still have the car today 152k miles later.

Service to me sells. I haven't bought another Acura because I haven't like the body style and it appears I dont have anything to look forward to on the 2014 TL. We are more than happy with our 2013 Genesis Coupe and loaded 2013 Sante Fe sport turbo. My Acura will continue to serve as the daily driver until the wheels fall off.
