I keep hearing about the new cheap looking Plastic Dash on the new Genesis.
Does anyone have a picture of this that they can post?

The dash on the Base Trim model has always been wood-grained plastic, no doubts about that. I believe that in Canada, same is true for Premium Package also (maybe even Tech Package, not sure). The latest models just have a different color wood-grain plastic than before.Out of curiosity, has anyone confirmed that the wood trim is actually plastic? In my experience, identical looking trim in other luxury cars really is wood. My only exception may be Honda/Acura.
So you have pulled the trim and seen first-hand that it is plastic? (I am not being pedantic, but I am curious to find a true first-hand account.)The dash on the Base Trim model has always been wood-grained plastic, no doubts about that.
Yes, if it is wood, it is probably is a ply veneer built up on an aluminum frame. If you pull the part and look at the edge, you can tell. BMW, Audi, and MB build up a wood ply on a aluminum frame (probably like Bentley and Porsche). I have seen those first-hand. Then, if it is glossy, they finish it with a thick, high-gloss acrylic something. (I have polished damaged BMW wood trim to make it as shiny as glass.) The true wood trim I have seen looks exactly like the Genesis trim. It is pretty difficult to tell wood from plastic without removal.I'm not even sure if you tell that way. many manufactures use a wood evneer over plastic or metal, even the high end cars.
Watching "how it's built: Dream cars", only the Rolls they showed actually used an all wood dash, but it was still layered. Bentley, Porsche, and others use a veneer over plastic or metal.
I own a 2009 Base Trim Model, and I know it is plastic, partly because I have inadvertently scratched it and had to repair it. You can't get any more first hand that that. I guess it is possible that starting in 2012 or 2013 they changed it to wood, since it does appear to be a different color than 2009-2011. If it was on the Premium Package or the Tech Package, then I would be more inclined to believe it could be real wood.So you have pulled the trim and seen first-hand that it is plastic? The Premium and Tech Package versions of Genesis have a leather dash, which is not too shabby. Given the price of the Base Trim model, its a little hard to complain. If you want real luxury from Hyundai, get an Equus. Personally, I kind of like the way the dash looks on my Base Trim model, but the only problem is that it scratches easily.Cool, thanks. That is what I wanted to know. Folks throw around "plastic," because that is what their old Honda or Toyota used to have. I officially give the Genesis one demerit for putting plastic where wood ought to be in a luxury car.
The center console trim and door trim in all trim levels is probably plastic too. I agree that it is great looking plastic, but it is still plastic. The Premium and Tech Package versions of Genesis have a leather dash, which is not too shabby. I think "most" Lexus models use wood. Probably same with Acura. Or at least if they don't use wood, they don't use fake wood. The center console trim and door trim in all trim levels is probably plastic too. I agree that it is great looking plastic, but it is still plastic.
In a luxury car, anything that looks like wood should be wood. The plastic in the Genesis is on par with an Avalon. If Hyundai wants the Genesis to truly to compete with the Audi 5, MB E, and BMW 5, then wood and leather must be wood and leather.
I wonder of Infiniti, Lexus, and Acura use faux wood too? I am pretty sure that the Infiniti is legit. Not sure about Lexus and Acura.

I believe that Premium Package, Tech Package, and R-Spec have "Leather-wrapped dash and door-trim inserts." Base Trim has the plastic.I have driven a -13 Gensis base. It has a gawd awful super shiny plastic piece on the passenger's side.
I cannot verify any other trim levels ATM.
