  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Anyone priced a new windshield?

Safelite replaced mine after first trying to repair the quarter-inch chip picked up on the highway. The repair seemed fine but after about a month the original chip suddenly became a 7 inch crack.

Safelite then replaced the windshield wih an OEM part, most likely because I doubt there are any aftermarket Equus windshields available at this time.

Dealing with Safelite was excellent, they were on time, courteous and appeared to know what they were doing.

Cost: $1049. However, the insurance company paid the bill so I don't what there actual cost was.

Had a failed Safelite repair on my car, and subsequently had them replace the windshield. I insisted on a OEM windshield - Safelite called Hyundai for
A quote - $1,200 - and then my insurance carrier for approval - they had the windshield the next day and installed it with $0 out of pocket. Unlike others here, my Safelite experience has never been less than stellar.

Whenever housing and construction pick up I notice there are more rocks flying around on the highway so after 2 direct hits to my windshield, one causing a small star, the other a crawling crack I replaced it today. I am kind of picky about window glass so I was leaning toward the factory product but with $1,000 ded and no separate glass coverage it was going to be all me.

I called your friendly local glass replacement service and decided to go aftermarket. I ordered a PGW glass product but when they showed up it was from Pilkington, the old switcheroo. I looked it over before installation and looked fine in the back of the van. After they left I got into the car to scrutinize the glass. I saw a little bit of aberration at the very edges but we usually dont look through that part of windshield. So I gave it a test drive looking hard for fault and guess what? I dont have any complaints and for $375 installed, a bargain. I heard that sometimes the rain sensors on aftermarket don't work as well but it sprinkled here in Denver today and the sensor worked just like always. For $375 I am going to give Pilkington a thumbs up!

So the question remains, can you get the extra insulated window glass that comes with the car?

Yes, that is what it said on the listing of the features of the glass. On the road, the interior noise is the same as before so it meets the expectations there too.

There is a wonderful glass shop in the Harlingen Texas area that just replaced my windshield, sound insulated Hyundai (not aftermarket) but no rain sensor, for $525.00 including labor. Our local Safelite estimates are usually almost double.

Yea, given the option for no-deductible glass coverage, TAKE it. Or "low" deductible, as the state or case may be.

i got my full load 09 used and the glass never qualified for insurance due to a small chip. Over the last year and a half i have never seen a windshield fall apart from regular use this bad. i finely took a rook right through the glass and replaced it with the cheapest i could find ($420-installed-tax). I don t noticed any more wind or road noise then i already do in this car. Hyundai acoustic glass is garage and waist of money. Even if insurance covered it i would t get it

I had a similar experience with a 2006 Hyundai Sonata I bought in June of 2005. My (ex) wife took the car, less than a week old, on a trip to Tucson and on the way took a stone clop on I-10. This was a newly designed Sonata and nobody had windshields, so we had to wait a few days for the dealer to get one in. That one was expensive but insurance covered it and I don't remember what it would have cost.

I just had my windshield replaced yesterday. Car was not a year old and fewer than 15K miles, and I got a rock hit a couple weeks ago.

Safelite did it with OEM glass (with rain & LDWS sensors). The total on their ticket was $392, including $120 for their labor. The interesting thing was that the windshield shown on the ticket as $898 "list price," but reduced to $225 "selling price." This shows that there is massive margin in a windshield.

I am very pleased with Safelite, the quality of the windshield, and the quality of their installation.

On my 2010 I had my glass replaced with Safelite with no warping and rain-sensors still worked. I will say though that after the windshield replacement, my car creaked when I turned into an incline driveway and never felt like it did when new. I'm sure this is more of an installation thing, but still.

The windshield is designed to be part of a vehicle's overall structural rigidity. And, it is intended to support the airbag in the event of an accident. It should be mated to the steel as one with the car. If you are getting creaking after a windshield R&R, that is not a good thing.

With the atrocious grammar shown in this post, I find it hard to take your opinion anything close to serious. How do you "take a rook"? I'm glad you "don t noticed" anything. And what about the Hyundai acoustic glass is "garage"? Or a "waist"? Why "would t" get it? Seriously... come on.

Yeah I realized it wasn't good, and traded the car in :-). (Okay, the real reason I traded the car in was because I was a little nervous about the tranny on that car, and well, I just had to have the 5.0 in non R-Spec guise)
