  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Picked up a stinkin' chip in my windshield a few weeks ago. Had a glass service "plug" it, but they didn't use suction (the guy used a cigarette lighter under the glass!) and now a "leg" is starting to show. I imagine it will spread as it gets colder/freezing.

What's the going price to replace the front windshield?

About $1,000 if you have the rain sensor. Not sure how much if you do not have that. Does your insurance coverage not have free glass coverage in your plan?

I think the even the OEM non-rain sensor is about $800 due to sound absorbing glass. By now, there may be some after-market versions that are less expensive. Contact serveral windshield replacement shops to get an accurate quote.

I got a nasty ping in mine on the second day after delivery...something soft like a concrete chunk hit it and left two chips close together with cracks around both. Professional glass guy wouldn't touch it due to liability for breaking it. I took it to a parking lot rip-off guy and he did what he could to fill it in. It looks better, but it will fail eventually. The new glass is $1000+ with the rain sensor install...

Search this website...I thought I saw a thread about non-oem replacement glass that indicated less than satisfactory results. The complaint seemed to be waviness or distortion in the cheap replacement.

$1385 installed inc. taxes here in Canada for a non-OEM replacement with Acoustic layer (beware of aftermarket replacements that don't have this), Rain Sensor and the heating element for the wipers.
Luckily my insurance covered it except for the $300 deductible.

Definitely check with your insurance man. Glass coverage is usually 100% Covered.

Non-OEM was about $650, IIRC. My insurance wouldn't cover as much of the cost of OEM, but it's been fine.

That would have been me with the optically distorted non OEM windshield.
Apart from that though, it has been fine - rain sensor and heated wiper park work as advertised.

I just replaced mine with a Hyndai replacement. If thru insurance it would have cost $ 575.00. The installer did it for $ 425.00 non-insurance. I have $ 500 deductible.

BTW, yes I have rain sensor. Also it took one day to get the windshield as the distribution center is approx. 5 miles away from the people who did the work.

Great price! I guess you can have it done for under $500. I assume that includes the cost of the glass.

Cute

It included the cost of everything with 2 hour service.

Done through the local Safelite franchise which was originally recommended by my insurance company.

And yes it was a brand new rain sensing windshield and everything works just like new/

After looking at the potential cost of a new windshield I called my agent. To bring the deductible down to $100, the yearly cost is less than$12.00!

Call your agent and be covered for less than the cost of a hamburger.

Hmmmm... I thought Safelite was aftermarket and non-OEM? Quality aftermarket, but aftermarket nonetheless.

In any case, I am having mine done as we speak; price is $706 for Safelite.

$750- replaced about 15 months ago- starting to get pitted- almost ball peen hammer time!

Got a crack in mine the other week but am waiting until spring to replace it. Got three quotes - $1200 from the Dealer, $683 from Safelite, and $392 from windshieldstogo.com. Hope this helps.

Just a heads up. I would never use Safelite ever! I used them to replace the windshield on my infiniti G35 last year. First windshield had a bad spot in it and looked magnified. Had them replace it and the second one leaked. had that one replaced and they messed up the trim that goes around the windshield and it would blow off at about 45 mph. Finally siliconed it back down myself.
