If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Model Type
Genesis G80
My used 2015 G80 is a largest car I have ever owned and my previous cars were more responsive on windey roads. Was therefore happy to see when the G70 came out but test drove one and just did have a gut feeling that this is the car for me. I do frequent for our highway drives and the G70 is far less smooth even on the comfort mode. I no longer do crazy high speed turns so I did not test that out.

I can see however that the G70 is a great car for the money, similar to an Audi S5 turbo I test drove a year ago for $25K more

I didn't go from a G80 to G70, but I did make a similar move: BMW 535 to G70.

Kind of like you I had been with smaller cars before (3 different 3 series in a row) and then thought I wanted a bigger car because of kids and since I was getting older. Looked at 5 series, E class, A6, and G80 and ended up with 535. Definitely enjoyed the extra space and highway ride, but it was seriously disappointing when it came to handling. When it was time to replace the 535 I went looking for a smaller car again and the G70 had just come out and I was tired of BMW and their prices so I thought I would give it a shot. Zero regrets on going to the smaller car again as the fun to drive aspect of it is just so much higher than the bigger cars like the G80. I purchased my G70 Sport 3.3T back in April of 2018 and already have over 36,000km on it and it has been worth every penny and I would make the exact same decision again if I could go back in time. A buddy of mine bought an S5 sportback about the same time and to be honest there are a few things nicer on it but for the ~$20K less I paid vs what he paid, we both agree it isn't worth that much more. Maybe ~$5K, but not ~$20K.

Also of note is that the only thing I miss about the BMW brand is the dealership experience as the Hyundai dealer Genesis uses in my city is not great. Fortunately with the pickup and drop off for service my interactions are kept to a minimum. But other than that I have no brand remorse either. :)

Oh, I guess the number of people that have asked me if I have lost my job might be a negative, but I actually enjoy not being in such a snobby brand anymore. :)

Things change. For me the 2015 Genesis and now the G80 were the perfect car for me needs. Unfortunately, my needs changed so next time around I will reevaluate everything. I have minimal G70 wheel time and did like it so will do more driving of it. I also drive less than I did even a year ago. I may also keep the G80 longer than I've kept cars in the past.

As soon as I'm done with my crystal ball and make a decision you can borrow it if it helps.

I trade my 2016 Genesis for a 3.3T G70 (my family shrank because my son went to College and now he has his own car) They are two completely different cars. One is spacious with a soft riding but agile when you floor it. The other is less spacious but adequate for a daily driving with a sporty ride, very well planted on the road and super fast, super fun to drive. Technology wise are almost the same like the luxurious finishing. For my needs today the G70 is a clear winner over the G80.

I went from a 2016 hyundai genesis sedan to a 19 g70 3.3tt. The 16 was smoother on the highway but the g70 is still plenty comfortable to me in comfort setting. I have the sport with the adaptive dampers. Most importantly my wife doesn't think the g70 is less comfortable. The adaptive cruise and lane keep assist are far better on the g70. Obviously the g70 is way more fun to drive and much more responsive. Gas mileage is better as well if I keep my foot out of it.
We frequently do 2-4 hr road trips and the g70 has been fine. My best friend and his wife come with us a lot. We're all kind of short though and we do have to pack lighter with the g70. I'm 5'7" and I can sit comfortably behind my driver setting for what it's worth.
As far as the g70 vs the s5 goes, the s5 has Better exhaust note imo but I liked the g70 interior better and the g70 was way cheaper. Power feels the same

I stated before in a prior post my transitional feelings on going from a 2015 Genesis Ultimate 3.8 which my wife and I really liked to a 3.3t G70. No doubt about it the Ultimate was definitely more comfortable rode smoother and was great on really long trips like 12 to 15 hours per day driving. My wife loved the car and was very reluctant to part with it. I felt it was getting around the time for a change based to the age of the car though it only had 28,000 miles on it. We both agreed it had to a smaller car to better free up some room in the garage. I’ve been an avid Hyundai fan for about 7 years now since my first 2011 Genesis. I have owned 2 Hyundai’s and this is my 3rd Genesis. Reasons are obvious, best built reliable cars I’ve owned. So I knew I wanted another Genesis. Research showed significant positive reviews of this new member of the family to merit a test drive. That’s it I was hooked. let’s not kid ourselves there is a significant difference here. As much as I think the new car is comfortable I can’t see myself embarking on a 15 hour drive with it and feeling as good as I did with the Ultimate and I won’t be driving with anybody in the back with it for again obvious reasons. That’s why I also own a full size Santa Ultimate to allow the practical me to cope with such matters. Now why would I accept these minor inconveniences? If you haven’t driven the G70 you wouldn’t understand and those who have do.

You don't drive much, do you? My 2018 G80 Sport which I've had for 18 months has just under 31K miles already.

Anyway, my car was at the dealership for a couple of days (they tore up my window tinting and were replacing it) and I had a G70 as my loaner. I did not have the 3.3T though. I had a 2.0T Sport model. While it was nice I definitely prefer the G80 much more. At least for me that is. The G70 was quite responsive but I really prefer the larger car.

I had a '16 Genesis 3.8 Ultimate until June. Absolutely adored that car and how spacious it was, but frankly it's a bit of a boat - pretty floaty, fairly numb steering, but suuuuuper comfortable. Even my dad's G80 Sport is really just a fast cruiser; doesn't really encourage corner carving. I definitely feel bumps a lot more in my G70 3.3T Sport, but that comes with the territory of a sportier car, and it'd be hard to feel bumps less than in my old car. Further, it's still a supremely comfortable ride. My passengers miss my old back seat, but that's not my problem

You really have to try the 3.3t "G70".

I quite understand the larger car preference. My wife still misses the old car which basically was her car. Now she only drives the Santa Fe and the G70 is my ride. Like I said before I'm not disputing the fact the larger Genesis is more comfortable and has a smoother ride. It's completely different experience in the "3.3t" G70.

If you're not pushing the engine, this is a moot point, agreed? --- I mean the faster engine is all it adds right? As far as the different G70 Models?

With that Said I have a 2014 RSpec and my wife has a 2018 G80... I must say that I enjoy driving my 14 Rspec more than her 2018 G80... And that is not because of the faster engine. It is more because the RSpec is a bit smaller and has a better feel for the road. The 2018 G80 is a more of a 'Floaty Boat' and lacks the 'Sports Sedan' feel to it. I am surprised at how much Bigger the G80 is.

So, with that said is the G70 similar to my RSpec or is it even smaller? - I take my RSpec on long trips and it is perfectly comfortable. The G80 is even more so, but lacks the 'Feel of the Road' around town. I don't think I would care for the G70, if it was smaller than my RSpec. What say you?

I say there is no right or wrong here. Personal preferences are what they are. As much as I like my G70 I really didn’t think it could be as comfortable on long drive as my prior Genesis. I was wrong. I recently took a 5-hour drive of which my wife said she was very comfortable and so was I…go figure. She was the one that said she could not be comfortable in it for a long drive. By the way to add to the satisfaction of my choice was a very satisfactory 30 mpg going and 29 on return. Of course, on the down side there’s the tight rear seats of which I say “don’t care” nobody’s ever going to sit there. That’s why we have a nice big SUV. All things considered I can honestly say I’m very satisfied with my G70. Right now, it’s the most enjoyable car to drive I’ve had. Not just cause it’s fast…because it is but it handles beautifully. It’s a drivers car in the classical sense.

So did you ever own a 2009-2014 Genesis? And if so, how does that 1st Generation Genesis compare to the G70?

I owned a 2014 Genesis sedan 3.8 and a 2016 Genesis sedan 3.8 and now I have a G70 3.3T. I'm going to give you ple answer. Every new generation is better than the older. Period.
My advice is go and test drive the G70. This is the only way you'll know if the car fits your needs.

Well, my ownership experience is a little different than yours... Every Generation I would say is differnent not necessarily better. As I said I prefer driving my Rspec over the G80... The G80 certainly rides better,. but it is more like an 'Old Man's car' with the Floaty ride and Big boat feel.

If that is your feeling then I think you are wasting time. Go to a dealer today and test drive the G70. Agile, fast, well planted on the road, superb handling, is quite the opposite of that big boat feel ride of the G80, though smaller.

That wasn't so hard was it?

My first Genesis was a 2011 purchased new. The results of that ownership cemented my acknowledgment of how far Hyundai’s attempt to build luxury cars had come. In other words it was a damn good car at reasonably lower price than likely competitors. The only thing lacking for me because of my environment was AWD. So I waited for Hyundai to fix this need. Finally in 2015 not only did they do that but it was “in my opinion” a most worthy upgrade to a very good car validated at the time by very high reviews. It was indeed a really good car and I still miss it really. For me of course I like to cars to look nice but reliability is at the top of the list. Don’t know for sure how this model will hold up it has a tough act to follow but if history is a good indication I expect my new Genesis to live up to my expectation while adding a good dose of old fashion fun.
