  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Apple Car Play

Hello everyone, I'm new here and seriously contemplating purchasing a 3.8 ultimate. But after reading this carplay news I thought maybe I should wait until later this year to see if it gets implemented into the later genesis models. I decided to email Hyundai to see if they had any info. Here is what they told me.

"While the 2015 Sonata will have Apple CarPlay available later this year there is no information right now for the 2015 Genesis. We encourage you to continue to visit our website at http://www.HyundaiUSA.com/shopping-tools/email-updates.aspx, where you can sign-up to receive updates, news, and special offers via email. We also have a specially designed website for the Genesis at www.HyundaiGenesis.com.

While the 2015 Genesis does not have Carplay we have included Apple's Siri Eyes Free feature on some trim levels. This allows you to use features such as making phone calls, playing music, listening to or writing a text message, finding the destination by using the map, looking for calendar information, etc."

doesn't look like the 15 genesis will be getting it at all which is a huge bummer cause I really wanted these features...

Not missing much in my 2015 Genesis.

My Genesis already has a standard Siri interface which does most of the stuff in Apple Car Play.

I just push and hold the voice command button on the steering wheel to activate Siri on the car speaker/ microphone system. When Siri is activated, the navigation screen displays the word SIRI.

I can tell Siri to read or send e-mail or text messages to or from contacts. I can reply to both e-mail and text messages with Siri.
I can have Siri make appointments.

I can tell Siri to play any Pandora or I-radio station. I can also tell Siri to play Pandora all songs - Shuffle mode.

Since I subscribe to Sirus/XM traffic, I use the Genesis navigation with traffic information. It seems to be on par with Google's WAZE navigation system, but you don't get police activity notices.

Since I have the WAZE APP on my phone, I would never use Apple Maps anyway.

I also use the built-in Voice activated Google search for POI searches.
That feature is activated from a button on the rear view mirror.

For phone calls, I use the Genesis system. I press a button on the steering wheel to activate the voice command phone. When I originally paired the phone with the car, all my contacts were downloaded to the car. Genesis has a great hands free calling system.

Technology in cars is changing fast. Pick a spot and jump in.

Hyundai has a system for downloading new company approved APPs, but so far they only offer 2: Sound Hound and Aha Radio.

Since the car has a WiFi connection capability, I suspect they may offer new downloadable maps for a price. When I'm near the house, I can connect to my wireless router WiFi network. Right now there isn't any reason to connect.

You can also have Siri play any song on your iPhone - by artist, album or song! It works great. You can ask Siri for stock prices, sports scores, weather, etc., - almost anything. It works great!

I have the 3.8 AWD Ultimate and there are no apps available for download yet - aHa and Pandora were pre-installed - Soundhound does not appear to be available...yet?

While I think Siri does enhance the functionality of the car/phone interface, CarPlay is a much wider and deeper step. It offers the greater possibility of apps than Hyundai and is more likely to be easily upgraded and benefit from the fact it is or will be supported in many other cars. I would have little faith in Hyundai flourishing in the app business and look forward to seeing more of the phones interface and capability accessible from the cars controls - next step is CarPlay without the cable.

I was waiting to see how Apple CarPlay and Android Auto roll out, but I went ahead and got my 2015 Genesis last weekend. From everything I have read and seen about CarPlay, the 2015 Genesis and 2015 Sonata will both be able to have a dealer installed update to add both features to the cars. Both cars have the required technology unpinning to support CarPlay and Android Auto and it makes sense for Hyundai to wait until they are both ready to roll out. If they roll one out before the other, the left-out camp will scream about it. Hyundai doesn't want to alienate it's customers.

Personally I think that CarPlay will look amazing on the Genesis Ultimate's huge 760p infotainment screen.
