Has anyone installed CarPlay on a G2 yet? Considering it. I have iOS 10 and the new features look really promising.
Any reviews from users here?
I got got an email from Hyundai on free Car Play. See partial E-mail screen shot which says my 2015 Genny 3.6 is eligable. Has anyone downloaded it and install it and if so what are the pros and cons? Did it mess up anything on the OEM stuff associated with your display screen?
I have installed CP/AA on my 2015 Genesis. Overall I like it. The biggest benefit is the messaging. While you can use Siri Eyes Free on all G2 models, the CP function lets you see that you have a message on the screen. You still have to let Siri read you the actual message.
Apple Maps is also nice. In general I still prefer the stock NAV, but for users who don't subscribe to the Google NAV Bluelink feature, it adds mostly reliable NAV input on the fly using Apple Maps. Another feature is if you don't have the actual maps screen open while navigating, you will still get pop up turn by turn instructions on the radio or music screen for example.
Other benefits are Pandora, I Heart Radio, and some other streaming apps.
I also tested this with my Brother's Samsung Galaxy Android. It worked very well, and added many features that are not available without the Android Auto Update. Playing music with menu selection is an example, while you can stream music on the stock unit, navigation of the music on your phone is not available through the cable as far as I know.
Another caveat... the cars with the Ultimate Package/DIS 9" cannot be upgraded due to a hardware compatibility issue. It remains to be seen if this will be remedied on the 2017 G80.
The update is easy to do. Use your stock SD card, and follow the instructions on hyundaiusa.com/myhyundai/
Finally, you don't lose any of your current functionality. Car Play does take over functions, but you can easily turn it off and go back to the stock interface.
