Apple carplay and android play is finally available as of 5/24/2016

Darn. My commodore64 won't let me download this in Canada....

I actually have one in a box someone and remember it quite fondly.

As a side note, I use Pandora radio quite a bit and I find the sound quality isn't great for either the Lexicon or Infinity (we have an ultimate 2015 Sonata as well) sound system. After installing AA in my Genesis last night, I tethered with my wife's phone to get a feel for the Amazon Music (She uses Amazon exclusively) app. I don't know if there is anything to this but Amazon Music had better clarity and deeper bass. I am going to build some albums in Amazon and use it from now on through AA. This is just my opinion so I don't have facts to back this.

Apple. The downside is less of a selection of music sources and no google maps. That's a pretty big downside. The upside is the basic stuff will work as advertised. Voice quality on calls with most providers is better.

I don't like distractions and I hate multi-tasking. I don't even have bluetooth paired to my phone--I am far too busy looking out for people not driving and masturbating their phones.

If I get a call, I call back when I get to my destination. If i think it's important, I will pull over. Punching at stuff on the screen is out of the question. When I want to look at a map, I pull over and bring up Google maps on the phone. If I need to make a decision at an intersection and I am unsure, I make my best guess, pull over, and check.

I use a USB stick for music.

Car Play is a mixed bag.

Apple Maps is not as advanced as Google, or the stock NAV for that matter.
I find that the Voice recognition is very spotty. The best way to navigate through VR on the Genesis is the Google Destinations via Blue Link. Of course that comes at a cost. The NAV system gets a much needed Voice recognition update and in my case the Map was updated to V9.5. In practice Google is best. For some POI's I had more success using the NAV VR instead of Apple/SIRI. As an example, we have a Grocery and Pharmacy chain here called MEIJER, pronounced MY-ER. The Car NAV finds it quickly. Apple could not get it right no matter how I said it. Once I punched it manually into the phone, SIRI is starting to understand, so at least Siri gets smarter with time.


I like the text integration. While you could always send or read texts via SIRI, the notification feature is nice so you will know when you get a reply.

Music is easier to navigate for my iphone using CarPlay, but the best way is just to tell SIRI what song, artist or album you want. Again, you can do that without CarPlay.

I don't usually do much streaming, but I was able to use I Heart Radio and some others, in addition Pandora worked fine.

Perhaps the biggest improvement with this download is the much improved VR on the car itself. I am finding POI search is much better, and the speed is also much improved. Even the basic VR for the Phone is better, but honestly SIRI is so much better that I would not use the VR on the car.

One take away.... While Ultimate owners did not get the update, most of the CP stuff is nice, but not that big a deal. I am finding that the improved mapping and VR response may actually be the biggest benefit for me. IMHO, this is where Hyundai need's to step up and show a goodwill gesture to update perhaps to V10 of the MAP software at no charge. That would show some respect for the owners that purchased the top of the line. It also is what Hyundai should do since the VR on the original software is pretty poor. My 2011 Sonata, and 2013 Azera were better.

As always thanks for your replies.... So Apple carplay only adds to the existing factory settings correct? its doesn't replace them.. We can still use the stock apps and maps if we wanted right?

Basically yes. You can still use the stock NAV, but all VR is through SIRI while connected, so you can't input directions by voice, but you can still use keyboard, or GOOGLE Blue Link search.

You iphone music and phone controls are all by SIRI while connected.

If you want full factory control back, you can either disconnect the phone, or change the setup to disable CarPlay.

One other interesting point.. your phone is not connected via Bluetooth while using CarPlay. All communication is through the cable. That did not cause any negative issues, and in fact the calls do seem clearer. That might actually be due to improved firmware.

On a side note... I hooked up my brother's Android yesterday. Google Maps rocks! If I had Android I would probably not use my stock NAV any longer.
The Google Map displays are better, and the search function is way better. In addition, instead of just showing the nearest POI, or a list of maybes, Google shows a list and a small inset labeled A, B, C, etc... so you can choose the best on depending on your routing. I was less impressed with the music interface. Some of that may just be due to my familiarity with the Apple interface, but if I could have the CarPlay layouts with Google Maps, that would be the Cat's A$$!

i use Siri now on the stock system and it does check for messages and reads back messages to me.. Ill try and do the installation on Tuesday... they layout looks cool much like the iphone.. thanks buddy..
