Apple carplay usb port

Hey all, I tried to connect my iphone 11 to my car via the central usb port and it doesnt seem to be making any type of connection. The head unit does not detect my phone, nor does the phone charge. I've tried several different cables including an original Apple one. The system was also recently updated to map version 13.47xxxx. Any ideas?
