Armrest USB Charging Problem for Samsung Android Phone

Hey guys, I am having a hard time connecting my phone via usb cable to the car's armrest usb plug-in. Basically the charge is unstable and goes on and off. No solid charge. No recognized device either. I cannot play any music through it. Any ideas?

I have the same problem with any android device and that USB port. I have no idea why either

I'll have to try this with my GS5. I have only used the USB port with a USB stick with my music. On longer trips, the GS5 is windshield mounted running Waze and plugs into the cig port.

I have no problem charging and connecting, and playing music on my Android LG L41C.
Blue Tooth works fine, and my cheap USB cable charges the phone the same as when I have it plugged into my PC. (slow charge)

The USB port in the armrest is not rated for high-amperage charging (will not charge a modern phone). It can charge an older style iPod (slowly) and not much more.

2014 5.0 I use the USB for a thumb drive with music. The 12v power in the armrest works great with a USB adapter. Just bluetooth the music.
