  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Model Type
Genesis G70
Just arrived at the Genesis (Hyundai) dealership for my first service and oil change. So far I am not impressed with the experience... Service advisor had zero customer service skills and certainly did not make a good first impression. I told him full synthetic oil change, nothing more nothing less. He didn't seem to listen so I reminded him again. We shall see what I end up with!

I make you wonder how people like that keep their jobs?

Yeah, that too.

You'd think the dealership owner would want the first person you meet for service is a cheerful, helpful person. Makes such a difference with your impression and confidence in service. And willingness to spend money.

How about it, you would think that would be a no brainer.

I did not add this in my posts about the sub under the front seats (see thread), but maybe it applies here. When I went to my closest dealer to check new vehicles for their performance a salesman showed me that the new cars had the same (non) result. Then I went to the service department to ask if anyone had contacted them about such an issue. The service advisor I spoke to said he knew nothing of such an issue. BUT, the next advisor owned a G70 and he turned to him to address my issue. I describe the non-response of the under seat speaker and John says (verbatim) "I have a speaker under my seat?"

When my car was finished after about one hour, my initial service advisor had already left for the evening. WTF?? Another service advisor wrapped up my paperwork.... Just got done checking over the car and everything looks good as far as I can tell. Paperwork says they used Quaker State 5w/20 full synyhetic

Absolutely! There was no sit down, no explanation of service, nothing! About as much as I got out of him was, "Where is the key?" Going to be eagerly awaiting the survey! 😀

Well, at least they used half decent oil! They didn't charge you, did they?

And then John said "At lunch I am going to go out to my car and find those speakers."
I chose another dealer as my preferred service location.

The dealership called me last week to schedule my first service. I had to make changes to the originally scheduled date and the rep was very accommodating. I've attached the confirmation email that was sent out and pleasantly surprised to see that they listed full synthetic oil as part of the service.

How would you really know what kind of oil they put in there?
It comes out of 55 gal drums I believe thru overhead lines.... ???
Not trying to be negative. It is documented and that is what is important.

I feel the same way you do, they tell me at the dealer they use synthetic.? But I guess we will never know. Unless I grab a sample and have it checked out for 15$ . I still might do that! But like you said it is documented.

If they don't, you'll be part of a class action lawsuit five years from now. . .. and you will be very excited when you receive you $.02 compensation check (after attorney fees and costs).

I'm not letting them touch my baby. I tried to get a few free filters from them and explained I would not be using my free service. Not a chance and purchase a few filters from them. Lol

Ops normal. Genesis is going to fail as a luxury brand because of the dealerships. This is my prediction. It is unfortunate because they build a good, award winning product.

Motor trend just started their long term test and the lead editor indicated that his choice for car of the year was not the G70. He is skeptical and intends to assess the whole package including the service experience and etc. Going to be interesting...

I too am changing my own oil thanks to my poor experiences with the dealerships. They used dino oil that in no way meets the spec and refused to change the oil they put in when I pointed it out.

Sux because one of the main reasons I decided g70 over 330i was the free maintenance.

Really a sad thing to witness. Genesis has little to no control over these Hyundai dealerships despite their efforts. The low sales volume doesnt incentivize the dealerships to care at all.

Hopefully this will change but if not, you may very well be correct in your prediction.
I hope they keep the 3.8L naturally aspirated v6 motor in their lineup, it is a great motor in my opinion and I am leery of all the turbo assisted motors coming out.

Tip: When setting up your service do it through Genesis Connected Services (USA centric) (Genesis Owners Homepage | MyGenesis) and not through the dealership itself. Before I go on I want to state that I've actually had very good experiences with this dealership, I had a starter malfunction code that was resolved and was treated well through the experience.

Anyway, about to hit the 6K mark and went to the dealership website instead of the above, there was no choice for Valet Pick-up (only drop-off / rental), so I wrote it down in the "notes" section. Choose the earliest date possible and then tried to reach someone at the dealership to make sure I could get a valet pickup and loaner... this proved to be a bit tedious.

I then remembered the above, logged-in to Genesis Services and was immediately given a sooner appointment (same dealership) and could clearly see that Valet-Pickup was an option.

The dealership experience is lacking and this will take years (if they succeed) to improve.

ok now let’s see if anyone actually comes for your car.
I will say using the dealership app isa terrible idea. Call the dealership and speak to a service rep. Get their name. Novel concept, using your phone as an actual phone. I believe that is the only sure fire way. Anything else is just tempting fate.
