  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

At Dealership For First Service and Oil Change

ok now let’s see if anyone actually comes for your car.
I will say using the dealership app isa terrible idea. Call the dealership and speak to a service rep. Get their name. Novel concept, using your phone as an actual phone. I believe that is the only sure fire way. Anything else is just tempting fate.
Or...use your phone app...but then definitely call like you said and follow up. If phone app didn't work...you can let them know (and/or Genesis).

That’s ok if you are willing to do QA on the phone app at the expense of your own frustration. Just don’t complain when it doesn’t work. It isn’t going to. Calling and speaking to a rep whose name you get is the ONLY I would trust.

EDIT - just noticed you said followup with a call. That’s alright.

My second service is coming up and after my last disappointing service at Burns (using dino oil after stating they would use full synth, tire pressures not correctly adjusted after tire rotation), I'm going to a nearby dealer with my own full synth oil this time. It took me around 5 tries throughout a weekday to get connected to the dedicated genesis service person at the dealer by phone as he was away from the desk all day... not a good sign. I'll get a loaner at least.

I may just use my independent mechanic I used for my previous car moving forward. No BS, does what I tell him to do, low costs. Saving a few bucks dealing with these clowns is not worth the hassle imo.

I wonder if Genesis receives any of this negative feedback?

When my car was finished after about one hour, my initial service advisor had already left for the evening. WTF?? Another service advisor wrapped up my paperwork.... Just got done checking over the car and everything looks good as far as I can tell. Paperwork says they used Quaker State 5w/20 full synyhetic
Isnt supposed to be 5w30?

According to Owners Manual 5W-20 is not recommended for any G70 (2.0T or 3.3T) on any climate.

My local dealer has now provided a direct contact for all things related to Genesis service. So, hopefully future services will go well.
My first service experience was okay--it was several months ago--second service coming up pretty soon. My local dealer is super nice, and I had initially scheduled on-line with a follow-up phone call. The person I spoke with (at that time) had no idea about a loaner car or bringing a car to me. (Frankly, I prefer driving my own car, so my preference was to drop it off and pick up a loaner.) But, she talked with someone; said she "sorted it out" and a Genesis loaner would be waiting.
Day of service--person I dropped car off with was unaware that there should be a loaner, and a Genesis was not scheduled. He was able to find an Elantra. Elantra is fine--I'm just driving to work and back--but it definitely isn't a Genesis--it isn't even a Sonata or Kona.
Oil change went fine; the people I dealt with were nice. They were over-the-top apologetic because a Genesis was not set aside and all was not "perfect" with the scheduling/drop off. It takes a bit to bother me--and I was, frankly, anticipating a few "kinks" until they figure the system out. Nothing happened that, to me, was worth pitching a fit over, and they gave me a future "direct contact" person for all things Genesis service related--so perhaps that will help.

I do feel fortunate that my local dealer seems decent, likeable, and wanting to do a good job. I think the car is Fabulous; a lot of the rest is going to be dealer-dependent--and that seems to be a huge variation depending on your dealer.

Hmm..definitely not a good look for those interested in buying. I feel like a quality maintenance experience is part of the package so it's like you're getting ripped off from it (although I'm sure there are some dealerships that are perfectly fine that aren't being spoken of).

Depends where you live. Cold starts, etc.
The first number is the cold temp number. I would never run anything under 30 weight especially in a heat producing twin turbo.

So I didn't use the App (although perhaps the same thing) I used the website I listed in my earlier post in this thread. I cancelled my appointment through the dealer directly. Went to the connected services website and logged-in (this was this Tues/Wed and they came and picked-up my car Friday). Valet guy came and dropped off a mallorca blue advanced G70 and took mine away. From the dealer to my pickup spot is 40 miles round trip, I gave the driver a friendly reminder that I set a speed alert on the car. So there's some dealers out there that are making an effort. I live in SF Bay Area, if someone wants to know where I'm taking my car, PM me.

I agree, some are. From the posts here, more need to make an effort.

Agreed, the dealer support is lacking. Genesis corporate made a mis-step when they let any run of mill Hyundai dealership also become Genesis one. Slapping a Genesis sign on a building doesn't change the culture/attitude of the dealership.

They didn't "let" them. The dealers sued under various state laws. The original plan was for 100 dealers, not 400. Slapping a sign on the building would be a step up. Some have not even done that yet.

Hopefully, they will lop off a bunch of the bad ones and get on track with the better dealers.

Misstep? If you know the history you know that they had no other choice. There were significant legal issues brought by the dealer. What you have had them do? They now need to wait it out.

They need to open stand alone dealerships is what they need to do. That isnt impossible.

I know that this is the only solution and Genesis USA tried harder the last couple of years but the dealership lobby is very strong and ended winning over Genesis

Of course it is not impossible and that is the goal. Meantime, how do you finance it? What do you take to the bank when you want to borrow lots of money to build one? That may happen once two things happen. They need an SUV and they need a limit of dealers in the area.

The SUV will be here in a few months. There are not enough sales of the current line to support a dealer. They can't have every Hyundai dealer selling the same product ever two miles. There are many legal obstacles to that right now. The stand alone dealer must have a decent exclusive area.
