  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I plan to have the ATF changed to AMSOIL. Any problems replacing the OEM Trans filter? Thanks for any reply

I would not do that if I were you. You will most likely void the transmission warranty.

You have the Aisin 6-speed transmission, which comes factory fill with a synthetic ATF that only needs to be changed every 100K or more miles.

Note that the synthetic ATF fluid for the Aisin transmission on the 2009-2011 3.8L Genesis is different than the synthetic ATF fluid for the ZF transmission (which is on the 2009-2011 Genesis 4.6). The fact that there are two different synthetic ATF specs suggests that a generic synthetic ATF like Amsoil might not be the correct one.

Also, you will probably figure out (if you haven't already) that it is not easy to change the ATF on the Genesis, because they don't consider it to be something that an owner should be changing themselves, or not even many dealers will be changing it due to 100K service interval.

In the "old days" frequent ATF changes were a good thing, but not necessarily anymore.

Don't do it while it is still under warranty. Personally I would never change fluid from what the mfg. specs in an automatic tranny.

I have been using AMSOIL for 20+ years w/o any problems in most cases all cars/SUV/trucks changes to AMSOIL front to rear before 5K on unit. My view when changing fluids get any metal fines out of system. My history includes changing engine oil, trans, front and rear diff all to AMSOIL. I had a 2001 Ford "X" with 7.3 PSD and 250K AMSOIL front to rear and two engine oil changes w/o any problems. . I started extended drains with a 1982 Honda going 7,500 miles in 1982. I need to know degree of difficulty to change Trans Filter?

New tech transmissions are not the same as the ones built just 3 years ago. why worry or why spend money on the Hyundai tranny with a 100,000 mile warranty. I think you will void your Hyundai warranty the minute the amsoil is put in. Also, The Hyundai Transmission is sealed and has no dip stick or fill point that I know of.

This thread (along with many others in this forum) is the reason why I wouldn't consider buying a used car. I would rather buy something new I can afford rather than something more luxurious that was used.

I have had good luck buying used, however on late model used cars (such as my BMW Z3 that I purchased in 2002) I check service records, carfax and talk with the servicing dealers. I take your comment to mean that some people start messing with service on a new car which is sometimes bad for the mechanicals of the car.

Yes, and street racing, add-ons, and all sorts of other crazy stuff I read about in this forum. Actually, I don't trust the dealers that much either, especially for oil changes, which is why I do those myself using full synthetic.

Totally agree.

In all fairness to the OP, he doesn't care what we think; only wants to have more information about a process he's going to follow through on.

We are just trying to inform OP that there is more than one type of synthetic ATF, and Hyundai specifies different synthetic ATF's for the Aisin (V6) and ZF (V8) trannys for 2009-2011 model years. Therefore, maybe the Amsoil synthetic ATF might not be the correct one.

I understand. :)
