  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello All,
Long time no see! I hope that all is well. Yup, you read the title correctly. I ran across a nice SILVER 2013 R-Spec with 212k miles (Highway) for a VERY VERY good price. I have always wanted a R-Spec after I purchased mine but they were very hard to find.
The seller is getting rid of it as he drives far for work and wanted something that is better on gas. He is the 2nd original owner. Dealer maintained/serviced. New tires, original wheels, interior is clean (except the damage to the B-Pillar), and nice paint.
That is all the good.
Here is the bad:
The driver's side b-pillar is smashed in a bit (not sure how that happened), the roof has some paint chips, and he said he knocked off $1200 from the asking price as the dealer said there was an small OIL leak of sort which was going to cost that much to replace the seal.
I did not ask if it was the rear main or not. I was just floored about the car. He also mention it does burn oil anyway (which I knew as common on the R-Spec) and it takes a moment to idle up (not sure what he means by that).
Drum roll please......asking price is >$4000!!!!

Yes I still own my 2012 Premium which now has about 224k miles on it with NO problems. I would love to add this to the Genesis G1 family. Any advice would be great.

Thanks

Any pictures of the B-Pillar damage. The engine repair or overhaul could be hefty but I don't know a lot about the 5.0.

I just talked to the owner. He said he is large and his body rubbed against the pillar over and over.
He also mentioned the OIL leak per the dealer is a seal near or over the alternator?? No idea. I will have to look at the DSM/shop manual.
He has dropped the price a tad.
What do you think?

Okay, cosmetic interior trim. The seat holster looks worn as well. I was under the impression it was exterior damage.
Oil leak near the alternator is interesting. Someone with a 5.0 could shed some light on this or check YouTube, bunch of Genesis BH videos and several with the R-Spec.

Yeah he is a big guy (I never met him in person). The outside of the car looks great for a 2013. I will try to make the pix smaller as they are too large to upload. Thank you for the advice. I REALLY want this. If I could get him at $3k, it is a winner winner chicken dinner. I have done ALL major maint./repairs on my 2012 with no problems so the leak could be a valve cover gasket (simple) or something. It is worth it.

Thank you!!!

I have a 2013 R-Spec with almost 75K miles. I'm the original owner and work from home, hence the low milage. Mine has been great with no major issues. The back-up camera acts up a times (goes to a blue screen) but a reset usually resolves. I know 2012 R-Spec had oil issues but didn't think it carried to the 2013. I was aware of that when I purchased and from all reports at the time I could fine it was resolved for the 2013. Every time I start looking and think about selling/trading I back-off because I really love the vehicle so much.

That's how I feel about my 2014 3.8 Genesis Sedan with almost 218K miles. Front end collision February 2023, totally repaired and a March 2024 collision with a deer. They totaled the car but gave it back with a check and now it looks like new with a "salvage title". Who cares, I love this car. 26-31 mpg and I don't drive it easy.

2013 does have oil burn, mine burn about 1 quart every 1500 miles...

I thought thats pretty good, some people say a quart every 500 :oops::oops:
That's double OUCH. My 2014 3.8 doesn't burn or leak any oil with almost 218K miles. My wife's 2001 Durango (purchased brand new and she won't sell or trade it) started to eat oil at 172K miles. One of her coworkers noticed the truck was smoking so she came home and told me. It was two quarts low after 8 months and 3800 miles. Heavy buildup in the tailpipe so I went on the Dodge Durango Forum and learned the 4.7 V8 engines start to burn oil about 140K. Guess we are lucky and I will just add oil when needed.

I would say you have the exception. Based on the post I've seen here over the year that problem was resolved with the 2012 model. Sorry you're having that issue. Not sure if you purchased new but I would have resolved it at that time or possibly filed under lemon law.

My 2013 5.0 Rspec just rolled over 148k. No oil consumption. Knock on wood, I've had minimal issues. Dealer replaced the fan and controller assy at 48k. I've replaced the alternator around 93k (which was a PIA... diodes bad) and oil leaking from valve covers on both sides (no varnish in the valvetrain and everything had normal wear patterns) replaced at 140k. I've replaced the spark plugs around 90k. I'm hard on tires and brakes....I never get near the mileage claim on the tires since these cars are heavy (currently Michelin)....I've replaced the brakes probably 6 times....their easy peasy to replace.

Love the acceleration, brakes, A/C, speakers, ride, decent fuel mileage on the highway.

Changed the brakes or tires 6 times in 148K miles? I’m currently at 221,300 miles on original brakes, just purchased a set of the “Power Stop” brake rotors and pads for normal driving. My brakes are measuring right near 4mm with the right front slightly less. I switched to Continental stores and am my third set, better mileage and ride comfort. I have the 3.8 V6 model so it might less weight. I have been lucky as no other heavy maintenance required.
