  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My two year lease on my Genesis Sedan is up this Fall and I am facing a decision: (1) Buy this Genesis (2) Buy a new Sonata or (3) Buy a new Tucson. I would like to keep the cost to under $28k - hence my decision..

I am really sold on Hyundai and would love to keep the Genesis and go with option #1 - but I simply won't do it unless I can find a paid of all weather tires that work well in the MN snow.

I know that many of you swear by the Genesis's performance in snow with snow tires installed, but I am not willing to store and swap a separate set of tires twice each year. My OCD would not do well with four dirty tires in the garage year-round.

So, for anyone who owns a Genesis in snowy states (or Canada!) that has installed all-weather tires - what are your thoughts? Is there a set that will improve the handling on snow?

I can deal with the rear-wheel drive but these OEM tires SUCK in snow.

Thanks in advance for the opinions!

Go to www.tirerack.com. Read the reviews on snow tires. Then talk to the folks at Tire Rack. I think you will conclude that there are some very good snow tires out there produced by Bridgestone, Dunlop, Continental and Michelin. They are so good that it really comes down to price as performance between them is very close.

Don't even consider running all season. You need at least rear snow tires. Although we've not had any winter here in Ontario compared to what they've experienced in the US, I have driven here enuf to know you can NOT make do with All Season. ( They aren't )

Why not just have the tires swapped out every season on your stock wheels? That way you don't have any wheels to store. You'd have to store the extra tires, but a quick trip to the coin operated car wash prior to getting the tires swapped would ensure they're nice and clean (and most tire shops will bag them up for you so as to not dirty your interior/trunk).

Finally, One less problem down here, I read in the paper it is to be in the Mid 70's all next week as I write this sitting in PJ's with a coffee on the sunny back Patio. (sorry I just could not stop myself. ) :-)

Rather than sitting in your PJ's, why not take a drive over to Elephant Bar there in Sunny Scottsdale and have a good meal on me. :grouphug:

The Elephant BAR!!!! Wow I lived here 23 years and don't know. I know i am an Old fogy, But please tell me where it is so I can bring my wife and we will pay for the tab but look forward to meeting you, Bob:D
PS just looked you up you what a nice gesture, But too nice but will love to have a drink with you. You are just across from my son's medical office in the Princess Medical Center. We live in Stonegate and will try and get there this weekend.

That would be all 49 states minus Hawaii today (unless the volcano's get snow tonight.

WOW I have lost IT! I was reding the posts to my wife Carolyn and she said Hey Dummy we have eaten there a number of times (more than 4) and liked it. On the North side of Mayo Blvd in the Shopping center, not far from my friends at Schumacher's.

Maybe the drinks are TOO GOOD.

Disaster - Thanks for the info. I may have to post to see if anyone has the Genny with the Continental ExtremeContact DWSs installed.

Waki - I think I will be fine to run all seasons all year if I get the right ones. The Continentals received fantastic reviews on tirerack for both conditions.

Jwaters - I know it may not make sense but I just don't want to go thorugh the hassel of keeping a second set of tires and rotating them off twice per year.

GripperDon - Thankfully I will be getting a break from this MN winter and be heading down to your neighborhood in two weeks. We lived in Scottsdale for 2.5 years and make a trip back each winter for an extended weekend. In fact, we have friends that live in Stonegate too. I miss sitting on the back patio in February!!

I just took delivery of a 2010 Genesis 4.6 Sedan last Friday and my first order of business was to take the car to a buddy who manages a Firestone dealer locally and had pre-ordered me a set of Continental ExtremeContact DWS tires, to which I had them changed after a whopping 16 miles.

The OE tires are sitting in my garage and will stay there until the end of my current lease, which ends in February 2013... that is unless someone is interested in them! :)

First review of the Conti tires I can give you all is that they're certainly a major upgrade over the factory Dunlops, handle just as well if not better, are quieter, and best of all actually work in snow and ice. We've had a couple of lighter (3" or less) snowfalls, and I've had the opportunity to drive in them with zero difficulty. I've had the ESC light illuminate on my dash when hitting the gas too hard going around an icy curve or two, but the recovery is quick and sure-footed.

So far, my review of these tires would go hand-in-hand with that of TireRack.

If anyone has any questions, just holler!

I just (3/4/10) picked up a set of Bridgestone LM60 snow tires for my 3.8. Pricey, but very well reviewed. I couldn't find Mich IceX in 235/50R18 or I would have purchased them instead. Next fall the Bridgestones go on and the Dunlops come off. Then in the spring I'll decide whether to put the Dunlops back on or replace them with one of the many well rated competitors.

I think the Bridgestones will pull me through some snow (PA/MD) - I've seen tractor tires with less aggressive tread :D
