  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I finally decided to upgrade the lousy factory audio system in the genny. Had the basic 7 speaker factory system. Here's the equipment I used:

PAC PDLC81 - LOC for factory headunit let me retain steering wheel controls

Front doors - Morel elate 6.5 componets in front doors
Rear doors - 6.5 Arc audio coaxials (these are just for a little rear fill)
Trunk - 2 JL Audio 12W3V3 subs 8ohm each wired for a 4 ohm load to amp

Front stage amp - JL Audio HD 600/4 - pushing the Morels
Rear door speakers running off factory amp from headunit
Sub amp - JL Audio HD 750/1 - pushing the 12's

Here's the problem. For some reason the sub amp(HD 750/1) keeps turning off. I believe it has something to do with the stupid auto volume leveling from the stock headunit. As I have switched out the amp itself and it does the same thing with the new amp. Its definitely not thermaling as it will do it immediately without even getting warm. Here's what I found. With the car idling I can turn up the volume and its fine. Now when I step on the gas and turn up the volume at the same time the amp immediately cuts off. Wierd:confused:. Cant figure it out as the front amp is not affected and gets its signal and remote turn on from the same place. Only thing I could figure was maybe the auto volume leveling is cutting the signal to the rear speakers only? Anyone with any insight please chime in.

Sounds like power or ground. Double check your grounds and try a cap on the power source.

You have a power problem. Might be the alternator is not putting out enough voltage. Do you have the power and ground from the amp connected directly to the battery? If not, you should (with proper fuses in place). Is your wire gauge large enough?

The amps are in the trunk connected directly to the battery using 4g power wire and a 60amp fuse block. Its definitely not a connection problem or ground problem.

you need a capacitor for power strorage.

Use a voltmeter and make sure your not dipping below 13 Volts.

Most amps will shut down under 13 volts.

Nah the JL amps have the R.I.P.S. power supply. They typically operate well in low voltage situations.

Im sure its not auto vol level as you can turn that off. Im sure you have tried that. Yes?

And a capasitor cost like 30 bucks and takes 10min to install why dont you just try if it doesnt work take back to walmart

Unfortunalely the auto volume leveling cant be turned off:mad:

A stiffening capacitor wont be of any help if it were a voltage drop problem anyway. Typically capacitors don't really do diddly squat. If it were pulling that much to cut the amp out a capacitor would never keep up with it.

Have you put a meter on the battery? You might have a bad cell or a bad alternator.
