  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

When i put my air to auto, after a few minutes the air flow redirects and comes flying out the defroster !!! Had my genesis in for my 15k service and the service manager states he checked two other genesis and the same thing happened !! This can't be normal, can it ?? Somebody please help.

However, they did finally fix my tilt wheel, which didn't.

In my Genesis when I put the airflow to the floor I still get air directed out the defrost. This isn't in Auto mode.....just in Manual mode. I was going to take it in to the dealership to have them look at it.
Basically when I go from the Floor + Defrost Mode to just the floor nothing changes.

When I use the "Auto" mode I always put the DIS Screen to "Info". That way you can see what settings the car is on. If the defrost icon isn't on the screen and you are getting full blast from it, then you could have a malfunction. Also, this car is smart and knows when your windshield had even the slightest bit of moisture on it.

Report back when you use the Auto with the Info screen.

Reporting back in.

Used the Auto button while having the Info setting on. It changed to defrost right before my eyes after about 15 minutes. Crazy.

However, as I've said earlier, my service manager is trying to tell me that three other Genesis acted the same that he tested in his lot. I simply can't believe that is supposed to happen.

There have been times when I have mine set to Auto and the defroster starts going, and it will not let me change it. I start pushing all the different buttons and no go, I have to end up turning the car off and then back on for it to stop.

Sounds fishy to me. I have always used the Auto A/C setting consistently for about two years now. Every now and then, it'll go into defrost mode but it is very rare and only stays in defrost for a couple of minutes to clear any condensation off the windshield. Then, it automatically switches to the main (chest level) vents. I'd take it to another dealership, because what you're being told just doesn't sound right. Mine is an 09 w/Tech by the way.

Just heard from the "fisherman", my service manager again who states he contacted someone from Hyundai, and they have no info on this malady. Shaky.

I can't find the article but when researching my Genesis before purchasing they were touting how one of the several features was automatic windshield defrosting. There is or are humidity sensors up there which somehow measure how humid the windshield is and automatically sets the vents to defrost upon detection. Once dried the vents switch back to the appropriate mode. Maybe it was just very humid or maybe this sensor is malfunctioning?

Humidity could truly be the culprit here for me, but it has only happened a few times in my few months of ownership.

Afaik it is part of the auto-dehumidity system and defogger - regardless what settings you choose, the car is always monitoring the windshield for humidity and defogging it. Consider it separate from your other settings - its a feature, not a bug.

For example, A/C typically comes out of the floor vents on Auto, but there is always air clearing the windshield. It was so humid yesterday that my side windows started to fog, but the windshield was crystal clear.
