  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Auto Lights in Daytime?

IMHO that is a REAL CONCERN and was one of the main reasons in my prior post I simply no longer use the AUTO MODE. It just can't be good to be cycling those HIDs that often and can only see that definitely causing pre mature failures in that VERY $$$$$$ system.

IMHO $50.00 for a couple of regular Osram D1S (stock bulbs) every 5 years is not a big deal for stopping using Auto light feature.

They will last 10+ even with frequent on offs, not really an issue. LED lights suck in light output, they are getting there but not yet up to par with HID. Give it a couple of more years and then maybe we can talk LED headlights.

That's not really true already - you'd be amazed at what LED lights are doing these days. I just picked up a small 1100 lumen LED dive light. At full power it makes my backyard look like daylight (have not dived with it yet) and would burn for 2 hours at that brightness - the hot spot (it's a narrow beam light) it creates on the ground is almost too bright to look at.

The G90 has LED headlights as it appears the G80 shown at Asan did too. LED headlights appear to be already going mainstream. I have not driven one yet to see how the beam coverage and range is - but brightness is not an issue today.

Thanks everyone for answering - it looks like they are operating as designed. This is not on highway driving, just on local tree covered roads. As for the fact that it is wearing out the HIDs faster, I will just live with it, we'll see how long they last.

As far as the future is concerned, my money is on LED. It's continuing to evolve in some fundamental ways that the other technologies are not. It already owns the rear lighting on vehicles. Laser and HID require expensive ancillary equipment to make it work. LEDs can be adaptive in so many ways (imagine being able to adjust the beams from the dashboard).

Band-gap is what it is called. LED lighting has advanced over the last several years because of fundamental advances in semi-conductor technology (it's why your cellphone is so powerful and uses so little electricity). LEDs will continue to advance until they are brighter than HID and cheaper than halogen.

Speaking of LEDs, are there any incandescent bulbs left anywhere on the 2016 Genesis? I looked at the bulb chart in the manual and they list some alternate bulbs for some things. It's nice to think I'll never have to change another light bulb!

I wonder what excuse the cops will have to stop you now that the tail lights will never go out? :-)

Just on the front turn lights. I was trying to find any resistor free LED for them. There is one at sharkracing.com they said you don't need resistors but I have to check it out because they are pricey.

The fact that it uses the incandescent turn signal bulbs as the DRLs on the 2015 is one of the reasons I don't keep my lights in Auto. These are short-lived bulbs that are designed for intermittent use as turn signals, and they require a significant amount of interference removal to replace.

I also drive on a lot of tree-covered roads, and I find the switching between headlights and DRLs to be annoying. I just turn my headlights on so that oncoming traffic can see me and know if it's safe to pass. I've also noticed that it doesn't do it when it's cloudy, even though the tree covered portions are darker than when it's sunny. I guess that the system turns on the headlights if the light drops by a certain amount.
