  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

When I want someone to have access to the trunk and I unlock it remotely, they don't realize it because it only makes a quiet click, but does not open at all. Does anyone know if it is possible to adjust the springs or something so that the trunk lid would at least open an inch or two, but preferably would open completely? Thanks for any information.

The remote or drivers door switch only unlatches the trunk lid. It does not open automatically. I agree the fact that Hyundai makes you walk to the back of the car and actually heave up the lid by hand is an absolute disgrace ;):D

If it helps there is a trunk open icon on the instrument display when you open it.

Gents. The trunk lid is not that heavy. You "ladies" need to get to the gym and pump some iron! Do you need a remote for everything? :D

22nd century man will evolve to the point where he no longer has a spine or any significant physical strength. Just muscular thumbs for texting and the TV remote. Otherwise he will simply be a shapeless blob of goo in the LazyBoy chair. The machines will have truly taken over our lives.

Somebody's been watching "Wall-E"

:D

LOL...Definitely sounds a lot like Wall-E, you're right. Great movie, by the way!

My Mercedes' trunk lid opens all the way, on it's own, once I hit the remote button. I'm no lady-boy, but it has come in handy when my hands have been full of groceries, kids, etc.
ironically, it was one of the first things I noticed about the Genesis, that I was disappointed in. Obviously, not losing sleep over it, but did make me go, "Hmm".

That and that I like that all four windows on my Mercedes were auto up/down. After 200,000 miles of having that convenience, you kind of get used to it.

Yes, adding a shorter trunk spring will cause it to pop right up, but be harder to close. Its just the way it was designed.

I think the OP is bothered by the fact that when your passenger asks you to pop the trunk for him/her and when you do,
they just give you that dumb look through the rearview mirror still waiting for the trunk to open,
and you have to yell "IT'S OPEN!!" :)

I don't think I was bothered by the operation of the trunk lid, but I did realize it was a little different from other cars I've had in the past.
I do like the fact that it's so effortless when you close it though.

Wish they offered motorized trunk as an option like they do in Korea.
There's even an aftermarket solution to install this auto open/shut trunk in S.Korea.

Thanks guys, most of you understood why I was asking, and the marine got to sound off- everybody's happy. The first time I was bothered by the trunk was when I had a bellhop standing in a downpour waiting for me to open it, which I already had, but didn't notice him standing there immediately because I have a torn tendon in my knee and was having a bit of trouble getting myself out of the car with an umbrella, so he was standing in the rain for no reason. If the trunk would open even an inch or two it would be obvious that it was unlocked, but unless you hear the click, you don't know it.

The full motorized option sounds nice. If it wasn't too pricey I'd consider it.

I remember my 89 Toyota Cressida would pop up about 1/2 way when you released it from inside the car. One windy day I popped it and the wind finished it right up against the backlight. No broken glass, but the hinges were completely sprung by exceeding the bump stops.

With manual operation, I'll take the trunk not opening even a little any day.

...and the marine got to sound off

Not trying to sound off here. Just trying to inject some reality with a twist of humor.

We've become so enamoured with, dependent upon, and enslaved by our technology that we now find it an "absolute disgrace" when the trunk lid on our car won't open all by itself, or say to the Bell Hop "Hey buddy. I'm opened. You can get may bags out and carry them inside."

As a Marine, I've had the fortune to travel most of this world where many people don't have cars, let alone trunk lids that open at the push of a button. Does that cause me shun technology or convenience features? No. But it gives me a healthy respect for all the wonderful things I do have, even if my trunk lid won't open itself.

I find no disgrace in my Genny. Matter of fact, I'm pretty happy that I can walk up to my locked car, press the trunk latch button, do what ever I need to do in the trunk, close the lid, and walk away knowing that my Genny is still locked. If it didn't have that feature, I still would find no disgrace in my Genny. I'd simply use that "20th century" technique of pushing the button on my key fob, or worse yet, that "stone aged" technique of using the key to open the trunk.

Adding a feature like this, with questionable utility but likely a price tag of more than $100, was probably a conscious decision and one that I personally am ok with.

+1.
During the buying process I noticed the same thing and asked if it was open.

Hello Again,

I believe I have figured out a low-tech solution that will cause the trunk to open an inch or two, cost less than a dollar, and take just a few minutes to install.

I'm going to get a black rubber ball, perhaps a racquetball, and velcro it somewhere on the rear edge of the trunk opening so that when I close the trunk it will compress the ball just before it latches. Then, when the latch is released, the ball should push the trunk open just a bit. This may take a bit of experimenting to get the right ball diameter and exact mounting method and location, but once I do, anyone else should be able to duplicate the "fix" in just a few minutes. I'll let you know how it works, unless one of you beats me to it, in which case I hope you'll share the specifics.

Thanks very much!

From my experience with bad trunk latches in the past... I'd say that is not a very good idea AT ALL.

Putting undue pressure on the latch just welcomes additional wear and tear on it. My suggestion... leave well enough alone.

I suffer the same annoyance now with my Passat - I click the button, I hear a swoosh, and the trunk doesn't pop up at all - never has. I know it's open, so I just live with it.

Anyways, just my $0.02USD

How many wet bellhops do you run into?
