  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Auto trans fluid change

2012 Genesis 3.8 owner and very infrequent poster here. I understand the 8 speed transmission was designed and built by Hyundai first appeared in 2012.

I had to replace two transmissions, thankfully both under an extended warranty (Zurich America).

Bought the car in January, 2017 with 36,000 miles from a suburban Philly Volvo dealer. It was a trade and I figured no one is buying a Korean rear wheel drive car in the winter, so I got a good deal. I read on this forum that the early 2012 models came with a guarantee: that the transmission would fail. I went to a local Hyundai dealer and bought an aftermarket warranty.
Understood. My 2014 transmission has been great. First transmission drain & service was about 85K+/- miles and am now at 223,400 miles and am ready for the pan filter combo replacement which I already have procured. I have to buy the correct fluid to match what the dealer purchased and have them do it along with the rear diff drain/service. I also procured all of the seals for the plugs. Just have to find a spare day or two because I will also have the corrosion recall addressed.

I just did the diff and have the trans pan filter and Valvoline Max ATF fluid about to go in. The dif needs a 24mm socket, those new washers came in handy for me. You'll need an extension to get to the fill bolt because the muffler sits right in the way of your wrench. Very easy process for this guy, as you simply need to pump in the new diff fluid, mine took a little over 1.5 quarts.

The trans pan filter change has proved difficult as I cannot seem to remove my fill bolt with the required 8mm allen key. Watch out for this before draining your fluid. I will have to level it from the bottom, which I originally hoped to avoid.

Good info. I won't be doing the service work as supposedly there is a process to run the vehicle while on jacks...and I don't have a lift. I also purchased 4 new OEM TPMS sensors that I will have replaced and the system back in order(2+ years staring at the "TPMS" light has been bugging me).
There a couple of Youtube videos showing different methods(tool set-ups) for removing the "Fill" bolt. Gotta love engineers when they design and don't take the technicians and service work in mind. I'm forty years in aviation maintenance on helo and fixed wing aircraft and I've seen it numerous times.
