  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have a 2013 Tech Package 3.8 Genesis. My driver side folding mirror folds in about 1/3 slower than the passenger side... sounds small but looks pretty terrible.

I took to dealership and the service advisor said he can't really do anything about it. If he put a new motor in, would do the same thing. This strikes me as BS unless the quality control is so bad they can't have the same motors operating on the same voltage/amperage/whatever, with the same gearing.

Has anybody had this issue, and/or heard similar in the past?

That remark from the dealer sounds like BS to me too. Maybe replacing the motor isn't the solution (maybe there's resistance in the mirror gear (or whatever), but while I haven't "timed" mine, I'd bet a dollar they open and close at the same rate, and this should be addressable by the dealer. Good luck.

Did you try posting in the 2009-2014 forum? My 2015 mirrors work fine, but I have no idea if it's the same system as in the old style car.

+1

I would doubt that it is the motor too. It sounds like the mechanism may not be correct. Something is wrong and it will probably fail in the future.

I would chalk that up to a lazy service manager. If you don't have another dealer in the area, I would pursue this with the zone office. You need to get on record that there is an issue with the mirror.

Silly problem. After all, which unit should be replaced, the fast one, or the slow one? An arbitrator would laugh this complaint out the door.

Easy solution: Compare it with a unit on the lot.

Respectfully disagree. Assuming every other Genesis mirror pair closes at the same rate, his should too, and it's a legitimate concern that could be a precursor to possible failure in the future (as in a folded mirror that won't unfold -- that would kind of suck).

Please use a stopwatch on your mirrors and tell us what is proper. That way we can advise the arbitrator. Let's time our rear sunshades too.

This is not something you have to sit and time with a stopwatch. It's very obvious and looks extremely cheap. Something like this should symmetrical and open/close simultaneously. Having mirrors attached makes it even more obvious. Unless it was designed this way, it's malfunctioning.

Unless it's obviously stuck and hampered in operation, the device is no doubt "in working order." Have you checked the speed of your power seats against each other? ,-)

Thanks for the help, Ernie. Didn't say it wasn't working, said it is malfunctioning, which means there is a good chance it will break down the road, likely after the warranty period.

Do you have anything other than snark to contribute today?

Did anyone find a fix? I posted my drivers side mirror motor is clicking. I have to push the mirror and it opens but the clicking sound persists after the the mirror has opened for 30sec more. would wd40 help this? thx. My thread on this has mentioned no feedback as of yet. My car is out of warranty so want to help my friend with a shop repair this easiest.

Sadly, B Coon never told us the outcome.

I plan on turning the folding mirror function off as soon as the weather gets to freezing. I think it could be a problem if moisture gets in between the rotating part and freezes. A broken tooth on a gear could cause the clicking and stress on the motor trying to move a frozen mirror caused damage so it moves slower than the other side? Just a guess, but I've had to replace wiper parts when turned on and frozen to the windshield.

My driver side mirror literally just started doing this when I went to leave the grocery store today. Its more than likely a broken tooth or two and will require replacing either the entire assembly, or if lucky enough just the gear can be replaced.

I just looked at my mirrors and one is just barley faster than the other. I wouldn't have noticed it if I hadn't read this and the only way to see it is to stand back so you can see both mirrors at the same time. I don't think the very slight speed difference is a defect nor do I think anything is wrong. But other's speed difference may be more than mine and may indicate a problem.

How do you turn the folding mirror function off? So it doesn't close automatically when you lock the doors with the key fob.

You've probably figured it out by now, but on the driver's door control cluster where the mirror controls are located, you will note that the control is a three way rocker switch. When the right side is depressed, the mirrors are "open", and the left is "closed". The center position is "automatic" and a light will display to show this. Keep the switch in the open position to "disable" the automatic feature.
