  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Automatically Sync Phone Book

Iphone 4 users....are you having to re-pair your phone everytime you get into your Genny. I just bought a 2011 4.6 and everytime i get into the car it does not automatically connect. I have to turn the bluetooth off on the phone and then back on and then it will pair. Any ideas? No phonebook sync issues here.

No. I have never had to repair. But keep in mind that my Phone/Nav package is completely different then yours. It appears that the touch screen system has better phone and iPod integration.

For those struggling with uploading your address book.
I have an 2011 4.6 and an HTC Thunderbolt.
I tried about 20 times to get this to work with no success.
I finally went into BT settings on the phone and enabled FTP file transfer, and the next time I tried it it worked.

Hope this helps anybody having trouble.

Best,

JDP

I just enabled 'FTP' on my HTC Incredible...siting in my office so can't get to the Geny to test it.

I have a question though, when you had success with your HTC did it happen automatically (as some on the list have reported) or did you actively upload?

Thanks in advance...

My '09 4.6 with Tech package does not have the ability to sync the phonebook with ANY phone. That was a feature that was implemented in later years.

I have mine at the dealership getting 30k service, some TSBs handled, detail etc. I know there is a map update out but I don't think that impacts any features or functionality of the NAV system. Also, there was a software/patch update form SOME early '09's with the tech package. Mine was not one of them. It is unclear exactly what the update addressed in those days. I do know that if the update was applied to a systems that "was not on the list" it would Brick your system.

They have me in a loaner while mine is getting serviced. The loaner is a 2011 4.6 with Tech package and the phonebook sync is there and works great with my Droid 2 Global.

I hope this helps.

Mark

I had to initiate the download phonebook process from within the settings menu. Curiously, I flashed a new ROM on my phone and had to re-pair the phone to the car and I lost my phoneook, upon repeating the phonebook download procedure the car only took 157 of almost 900 contacts...I tried it several times getting a slightly different number of contacts with each attempt.
Anybody have any suggestions?

Thanks for looking.

If you don't mind, how did you "initiate the download phonebook process from within the settings menu"?

I don't see anything that remotely sounds like that task from within my Incredible...

Thanks!

No silly, this is in Genesis settings menu...

nope! my 2010 4.6 w/ tech won't do it with a blackberry bold ....crazy....but if anybody knows of upgrade please let me know thanks

My 2011 V8 with tech, was able to download to the phone book from my iPhone 4. However, when somebody calls me, the display just shows "UNKNOWN"- no name, no number. I find this annoying.

Also, it doesn't sync automatically. I had to delete the pairing and re-download it to get it up to date.

Funny, according to the DIS Manual page 164..."The phonebook of the Driver Information System is independent from the phonebook of the mobile phone. Transfer of phonebook entries from the system to the mobile phone or vice versa is not possible."

this phone to DIS system seems to be a fickle mistress, I have tried not less than 20 times, and each time i get a different number of contacts from the phone to the in car system, but never have I got all of the contacts in the phone to the DIS system...only once did I get close to the total 750 out of 900+/- to the car. Now I get only between 130-170 each time I try.

FWIW, I can't upload my phonebook from my Blackbery either, but believe it to be a problem with the Blackberry given the error message I get from it.

Since it's a work phone, I don't know if it's in the settings on the phone or not as I've exhausted all possible drilldowns on the phone I can muster.

Damned frustrating. The bluetooth link works great, no problems there, it's just that I can't import contacts and when an incoming call arrives, it only displays the number.

My understanding is that people who got the 2010 Premium Package (Touch Screen Nav) have the ability to transfer their contacts from phone to NAV... while those who paid for the DIS don't. As of 2011, this has changed and everybody can now perform the transfer...

The real question is... when will Hyundai release an update that brings the bluetooth in the 2010 Genesis to the same level as the 2010 Accent...

Just got the 2012 R-spec and having some issues with the Bluetooth. The menus are a bit different from the 2009 so there's a learning curve here.

I have an iPhone 4 and it worked pretty good with the 2009, but on the 2012 it doesnt even see it. Also the iphone does not see the Genesis. I go to register it and nothing happens.

Is there a fuse for the Bluetooth or another setting Im not aware of to actually turn it on? I see nothing useful in the manual...

I am new here. I recently bought 2010 genesis 3.8 with DIS navigation. Love the car!!! Has there been an update for the phonebook problem? Also my map version is 08.25.14. Is there update from that and is it worthwhile? Thanks and Happy New Year!!!

No update for the phonebook transfer. Hyundai is useless and is truly disappointing in the way it treats this car. The official answer I was given by Hyundai on this is that it is not an issue, and since the car was made this way, they will not be releasing an update to change this.

As far as the GPS goes, it's useless before or after the update... at least here in Canada, it is way to picky on the way to enter street names to be of any use.

How do you turn down the sync complete message every time you get into the car? I know it syncs all the time to keep the phone book in the car upto date but its overly loud compared to the radio. Thankfully i havent had the radio up when it goes off. i can only imagine how loud it gets.

I never get a verbal sync complete message with my car. To the best of my knowledge the car does not sync my phonebook automatically whenever I get in the car. I need to manually go into the settings and select download phone book. That's ok with me but is there an auto sync option I don't know about?

StealthWyvern, may I suggest you edit your profile to include your car info i.e. premium, tech package, and model year in your signature? Others will be able to help more if they know more about your car. Go to User CP near the top left of any page, then scroll to edit signature, and type in your details.
