  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

We are taking our new Genesis out for its first long distance trip and I wanted to know about the Autonomous emergency braking (AEB) feature.

If I am driving and someone suddenly cuts into my driving lane right in front of me, the AEB is supposed to slow the car. How well does this work? Of course, I will instinctively hit the brakes too. What does this do to the AEB?

Is this braking system similar to or part of the braking that is part of the smart cruise control?

Yes, AEB (Automatic Emergency Braking) should work in that situation. But, I will tell you it is very shocking with it comes on because it waits until very late. Otherwise, it would be way too intrusive.
As for the technology, it does share it with the SCC, leveraging the camera and radar. It says it only will stop the vehicle fully from 5-50mph but I have seen it come on higher than 50mph. Mostly when I am accelerating toward the car in front of me to change lanes quickly (thinks I am about to plow into the car ahead). A little annoying but reminds me not to be too aggressive.

I can't find it in print, but it seems to turn the braking completely over to the driver as soon as he hits the brake pedal. I have had it come on several times now.

In the HUD you will get a flashing red car warning you before it kicks in. If you hit your brakes you are now in control. I like the system. Having that forewarning is nice. I have had that kick in about a half dozen times but have yet to have the braking system have to be used because I hit the brakes. Just nice to know it is there.

I have had the rear cross tracking alert system save me already a few times in a parking lot. Nice feature as well... Enjoy your road trip and make sure you play with all the buttons & features... :D

Is there any type similar warning (flashing red car equivalent) if you don't have HUD? I have the tech package.

Pretty sure it shows up on display behind steering wheel.

Since having the HUD I don't look down anymore. Next time it flashes I will check to see if there is a warning on the screen between the tach & speedo.

In my Ultimate, I get the flashing red car between the speedo and tach as well as a loud audio alarm.

Ditto. Just had it happen again on the way home so I glanced down before hitting the brakes. Red flashing car.

I had another feature pop up when using the SCC that I didn't know about. I was stopped behind a vehicle at a red light. The light turned green under the 3 second window and the guy turned left. On the LCD screen pops up a warning that states "Watch for stopped vehicles" or "slow vehicles" can't remember for sure which.

My thinking is that when this guy turned, the Radar & Camera needs time to locate the next car in line (if there is one) and this warning pops up to insure we pay attention. Neat feature.
