If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

On our recent return trip from Florida I rediscovered one of the Genesis' awesome features that I had completely forgotten -the Auto Hold. There was an accident on I75 that held us up for about 45 minutes and I engaged the Auto Hold and it performed flawlessly. Almost like a slow speed cruise control. Has anyone else discovered or re-discovered how great this feature is?

damn! elaborate PLEASE.

I haven't found much use for it either, so I'd also be interested to hear if I've been missing something.

By turning it on it really helps keep your speed down when traffic is just idling along so you don't have to keep putting your foot on the brake. It will hold the car stopped if needed or will maintain a very slow speed if you desire. If you haven't tried it give it a shot at your next opportunity. :)

not being near my manual HOW do you activate it lol

It's a button on the far left, below the dash.

I LOVE auto-hold, although it is a bit freaky to get used to.

I test drove many cars before settling on the Genesis, and the VW CC has this too. Great feature. I used it last night actually--my wife and I were leaving a concert and whilst in the scarcely moving line at the Toyota Center parking garage, it came in handy!

Funny, I just figured out how to use it this afternoon! :D

Pretty cool feature!

What on earth are you guys talking about. I looked high and low found no button on my 09 Genny 4.6

Auto Hold was introduced in the 2010 MY tech packages in both V6's and V8's, along with the electronic parking brake.
Actually there would be no Auto Hold without that electronic parking brake. All 2009 models have the foot brake.
All of these posters must be driving '10s or '11's :welcome:

As I understand it from the manual, you come to a stop by pressing on the brake as usual, hit auto hold, and take your foot off the brake. The car will then remain stationary as auto hold essentially steps on the brake for you. If you then step on the gas, the car will move forward, but auto hold will still be active if you stop again. Is that how it works? I admit that I hadn't fully tried it before, so thanks.

Yeah, I've used it at stoplights or in the drive-through, but it sounds like you're getting more use out of it than me and I'm jealous. ;-p

Seriously, if it only keeps the brake engaged until you use the gas again, how does it:
a) "help keep your speed down"
b) "you don't have to keep putting your foot on the brake"
c) "maintain a very slow speed if you desire"

I hope I am missing something, as even though I'm not in stop-and-go much anymore I could use all of the sanity-saving help I can get when I *am* in stop-in-go. :-)

Somehow, it also will keep you at a speed below idle if you just gently apply the gas to barely get the car to move. I don't know (and I don't remember if it's mentioned in the manual) at what speed it actually disengages. It seems able to just drag the brake a little - the same as the driver does when trying to move along at less than idle speed.

I'm glad I ran across this thread.

I didn't know you could do that. To me it seemed pretty useless...I'll have to try it out when I'm stuck in traffic.

One question though-would it prematurely wear out the brakes?

I haven't experienced the 'drive slowly' aspect of Auto-Hold, only the ability to take your foot off the brake when stopped (and yes, brake lights remain on). If the OP's car really behaves the way it's described here, I think something is wrong and the system should be checked. I'll try it again tonight, but I've never accelerated from a stop without Auto-Hold being released.
If it DOES do what the OP says, I don't think it would have any effect on brake life. It isn't doing anything you wouldn't do without AH (such as inch forward and apply the brake, rinse, repeat).

I wondered about the same thing and came to the same conclusion.

Auto-Hold just engages the brake, so you don't have to keep your foot on it. It does nothing when 'creeping along' at a slow idle.

Mine does. Can't say whether it's designed that way, but that's the way it works. Maybe the brakes don't release as soon as they're supposed to. Anyone else with any input?

Just call your Service Department instead of asking for input here. We've already chimed in, you should make the call. Not saying you have to take it to them, but if they confirm what we've said then make an appontment or schedule along with your next oil change (without using it in the meantime).

Not being rude, but how many opinions do you want?

No offense, but I'm not worried about opinions at all. I'm happy with how it's working. :)
