  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I've been on this web site since 2010, but had to re register because it didn't recognize me anymore. The reason I want to post, is our 2010 Genesis has around 260K, and has been the most reliable, awesome vehicle I've ever had. I do regular maintenance on it, and other than a couple small items, the only part that has ever been replaced is the throttle body. It gave problems a couple years ago, and I replaced it with Genuine OEM for $165. It may explode tomorrow, but I've never had a car this well designed and built. It's getting close to time to go looking again, and was wondering if the new ones seem to be as good. They have so many numbers now, I don't even know what comparable to my 2010. So, what kind of luck is everyone having? Recomendations?? Thanks

Glad to hear your car has lasted so long. Did you stick with manufacturers maint. advice, or what the dealer tells you?

Once the warranty was up, I never had to use the dealer at all. I've done my own oil changes, brakes, plugs, and such. Dealer's rip you off so bad, I leave them alone. I am getting old enough now to think about someone else doing it, but it's hard to find someone honest and reasonable.

My 2015 is approaching 150,000 mi. I take care of it, and frequently receive compliments that people can't believe how old it is since it still looks almost new. I follow the manufacturer's maintenance schedule. I drove it a lot when I was younger, but now I live within walking distance of work so rarely drive it (mostly weekend highway trips) and usually get the oil changed at six months before hitting the mileage interval.

It's been fairly reliable, but has had some fairly expensive repairs in the past couple of years (e.g., valve cover gasket leak, camshaft girdle leak, a couple of coolant leaks, worn engine and transmission mounts). None of these prevented the car from being driven and I suspect many drivers would have ignored them with a car of this vintage. Engine and transmission still seem solid (no noises, slipping, etc.). Most cars I've owned have had similar problems as they age, and I think the Genesis has been pretty reliable overall. Going 260,000 mi with nothing but routine maintenance and a throttle body is exceptional (*knocks on wood).

The car did sit for several months a couple of years ago while waiting on a part (coolant fitting; there's a thread around here somewhere). It seems like a lot of the leaks occurred after that, but I don't know if it's because the car was sitting for so long or because the local independent shop I now use is more thorough when looking for problems. I don't believe the shop is ripping me off, but they are very meticulous when inspecting the car (which I'd prefer to prevent problems surprising me at a more inconvenient time).

The most comparable current model to your car is probably the G80 (the Hyundai Genesis became the Genesis G80 when they launched the Genesis brand). If you want to stick with sedans, they also have the G70, which is a smaller, sportier sedan, and the G90, which is comparable to the Equus.

Thanks, I think we're going to start looking. I just hope the new models are same quality! ?I haven't had any oil leaks, or anything other than the throttle body. I took it apart, and it stripped the plastic gears inside. All other 'failures' are cosmetic. Dash cracking, plastic and no surprise. I had one sunvisor fail, wouldn't stay up, and dogs started seat failures. It's been washed so many times, paint is getting thin in places. Not surprised at the cosmetic stuff. This car is so well designed and made, I hope they kept it up. That probably means I hope they haven't let American management in!!
