  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

OK, I just got home from a long business trip and my car is running rough. I found that a GIANT RAT had made a home in my engine bay and ate through 2 plugs and wires at the top of my engine. (Some type of sensors on my 2009 Genesis 3.8 sedan)

Don’t worry, once my Staffies were sent into the garage, they promptly dispatched the vermin offender.

That being said, can someone post a photo of their motor underneath the cover so I can make certain where these wires were meant to go?

Here is a photo of what I am talking about. Who can tell me exactly what these wires are? (I'm bracing myself)

Another photo of the damage.

Even killing the dirty rat doesn't seem like enough revenge.
Been down this same road. Sorry it happened.

Does homeowners cover anything like that?

Those appear to be fuel injectors.
If they'd been chewed somewhere in the middle leaving a pig tail on the connectors, I'd say take it to a competent independent shop who does good electrical work and you'd be able to have some new wire properly soldered/wrapped and be on your merry way without the cost of a harness.

Now, I'd still consider that route if you have a local u-pull-it yard where you could snip those connectors off with a few inches of wire attached. If this is not an option, I'd start scouring the internet for a better price on the harness and find an indy shop to do the work. Should be cheaper than a dealership but still wont be crazy cheap.

I'd offer to do this but it's a long drive from Omaha to San Diego lol.

I assumed that would be for the fuel injection. It’s running on 4 cylinders then. (I’m not driving it and haven’t for about a month). I’ve been making calls to he local wreckers. I am waiting to hear back on one for $200. I’ll have a mechanic do it as I’m not comfortable with such a large electrical job. Audio, are you sure you don’t need a quick vacation in sunny San Diego??

This might be covered under your comprehensive. Your only cost would be your deductible. Call your insurance company.

This is sound advice. Assuming you have comprehensive coverage through your vehicle insurer, it might be worth your while to see if that coverage includes damage of this type. At the very least, you're only out for a few minutes of your time for the phone call.

That's a solution I never even thought of. Insurance can cover some weird stuff sometimes! Hope that route works for you. I'd rather pay a comp deductible than a labor bill for replacing an entire harness.
