  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Car in reverse, camera does not come on. Only black screen with words...

Cleaned sensor (electric eye near license plate) to no avail!

Any ideas?

Thanks, Rob

I just did some research to try and help you, and it sounds kind of *doh* but I read here that they opened their trunk, closed it again and it started to work again.

If that doesn't work I suggest finding out if a fuse is maybe blown or if the wiring may be shot. You said it just "has words" on it, but could you possibly post a picture of what it's showing so I can see what may be the issue?

went to the dealership and they said the camera has to be replaced. for now as a temporary fix he slapped the camera a couple times and and it seemed to work now. it started about 2 yrs ago when it was extremely hot 95-100 degrees, but now its more frequent. so i suggest slapping it up a few times and it might work. i think its the opening of the trunked over the years and something with the camera gets loose/faulty.

there's no real fix except to replace the camera altogether which is not worth it on my 2009 4.6

My 2010 is black and, now that it's become summertime hot outside, I occasionally experience the picture sent from the rear camera as wavy/squiggly/distorted/unusual. It only happens during the heat of summer, rest of the year it's fine. It's more apt to act up when the camera and rear end are directly facing the sun. For me, it's a minor annoyance. I still have three mirrors and my neck swivels pretty well.
