  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Yesterday my 2 day old Genesis was parked and I came out to find the entire back window spidered from top to bottom. The parking lot is next to a golf course. Noticed a point of impact toward the bottom, guessing a golf ball hit it. As soon as a door was opened and closed most of the window broke out.

I understand since this is a brand new redesign of a model that parts are hard to come by. I was told that no windows are now in the US and it may take three weeks for the part. Does anyone have any idea how I can get parts sooner? And what is the best way to keep the broken glass from scratching the paint?

Side note, I have a new Ford Explorer for a rental and I opened the sunroof this morning and noticed that the wind buffer that pops up is the same fabric and color as the Genesis and the buttons to open and close it are both the exact same in the Genesis and Ford, so Ford and Hyndai are both using the same sunroof manufacturer. Interesting.

Had a similar experience with the windshield on a brand new 2010 Genesis - ended up getting the part from an after market supplier, PP&G I believe. Try checking with one of their distributors. Good luck.

Many of the systems and components used on cars these days (way beyond what most people realize) are outsourced to vendors who supply them for many auto manufacturers. This is especially true for a relatively low volume car like Genesis. Manufacturers have over the years spun off their component manufacturing arms into separate companies (GM/Delco, Toyota/Aisin, etc).

Even in cases where auto companies still make their own parts, there are sometimes specific technology sharing agreements directly between two or more manufacturers. Hyundai and Kia are perfect examples of this (Hyundai only owns 1/3 of Kia). Toyota and GM have had agreements in the past.

Have you contacted your insurance company? Also Call any auto glass installation company and they should be able to answer your questions. They will use a vacuum to clean up the glass

I would also get in contact with your dealer. The tempered glass is very hard to break . You can hit it with a hammer and not always break it. Maybe a flaw in the glass and it broke in the hot sun. Just a possibility, if they will warranty it no money out of your pocket.

Insurance was contacted and the auto glass installation company will be doing the installation. We could see an impact point on the glass so it won't be a warranty issue.

My back window glass was replaced today and it looks like new. I was told that the glass price was $506 and the liner was $103. Safelite labor charge was $90 all paid by insurance minus deductible. I thought that all this would costs much more.

What's the "liner"?

One of my biggest gripes about Hyundai is their lack of parts on hand. Seems like every part takes 2-3 weeks to get to the dealership. When my car was less than 1 year old I waited 2 weeks for a part for the injection system. They provided me with a Nissan Cube. All my friends were asking what happened to my Genesis. It was actually embarassing. I hope this issue improves with the second generation.

Stocking auto parts for a relatively low volume car made in Korea is a tricky proposition. They don't know beforehand which parts will fail more often than others, and they don't want to get stuck with a big inventory of parts that are never sold. Obviously, consumables like oil filters are an exception.

My wife waited 6 weeks for a current-production mainstream Nissan to have the head unit replaced under warranty. It was definitely operable, but they then had the balls to suggest it might be a problem that she crossed the basic warranty mileage threshold (36k) during those 6 weeks. 6 weeks is a long time to go without radio or nav and they weren't the least bit sympathetic...
