  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
    If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey Folks,
New to the Genesis forum, but not new to forums. Currently a member of the Lexus forum and formerly Infiniti (replaced an M35 with the Genesis). Great work here thus far. Already ordered the wing emblem for the trunk!:D

Here is my question. I noticed when washing my car last week that I could not remove some faint black "stuff" off of my wheels.:( Anyone else seen anything like this? I'll see if I can get a picture to post. If anyone has any ideas how to remove, I would love to hear about it. It looks like the wheels got wet with brake dust on them and then they dried and the brake dust is now baked on. Not sure if this was there when I purchased the car as it started pouring rain as soon as they finished detailing after I purchased it. I couldn't remove the stuff with the over the counter wheel cleaners. Don't want to put anything on them that will cause any damage to the clear coat.

If all else fails you can always "clay" the wheels. Claying is excellent for removing brake dust. It will take some time but the results are great, just keep the wheel well lubricated while claying. I did this as soon as I bought mine then I sealed them with jetSEAL 109 from www.ChemicalGuys.com. After about a thousand miles I have noticed that the brake dust is hardly coating the wheels.

jetSeal looks like pretty heavy duty stuff. Did you buy a GALLON? Did you do the whole car, or just the wheels?

Interesting . . . . hadn't even thought about clay. Have done that to my cars several times with great results. Made the surface smooth to the touch. I also had someone recommend Novus #2 plastic polish. Any thoughts on that?

I had that and I just used bathroom cleaner spray. After cleaning it I applied some wax what you using for your car. It helps to clean it next time.

You may want to reconsidering to go with aftermarket brake pads once these are worn. Some semi metallic or ceramic would help for sure. Hawk has some really good ceramic brake pads.

Cheers

Thanks for the tip on claying the wheels, I would not have thought of that.

BaywayRic;

A little goes along way so I got the smaller size. I put 2 coats on the entire car after claying. Even brand new I was surprised how much stuff came off on the clay bar!!

I have not tried Novus #2 but I would love to hear about the results! I'm always looking for the "perfect sealer/wax". To date jetSEAL is the best I've used, goes on easy and comes off easy, dosn't take alot of rubbing!

On my GS I use Poorboys world wheel sealant, I have polished wheels so if they get dirty I have to spend about an hour polishing the wheels to get them to shine like new. After I fully polish all wheels I apply the sealant and buff it off and dont have to worry about polishing the wheels for another 6 to 8 weeks. It works like a wax for your wheels and resist heat really well. I have been using for 3 years and love this product. Wont help you get the stains off but once you do it will help to prevent them from coming back :D
